I don't suppose any of these conversations have to do with when JS2s are sent?Nonconsecutive wrote:Grain of Salt Warning:R. Jeeves wrote:how likely is it that they cut their class size by 5% or more?
HLS 3L here, and I'll start by saying that you all know this data far better than I do. But from an institutional perspective I'd be really surprised to see HLS cut their class size. You might have seen where FAS is cutting their graduate admissions by 4.4% - but a lot of the reasons for that don't seem to be effecting the law school (at least not substantively, Harvard always QQs about being poor), nor have I heard anything about size cuts. It's 100% true that I'm in no inner admissions inner circles, but I do have semi-ongoing email conversations with the admissions dean and am good friends with the student body president, and this is something that has never come up. My guess is that the size will follow historical trends, as already mentioned.

I probably should have pre-answered that question.Smc1994 wrote:I don't suppose any of these conversations have to do with when JS2s are sent?
Sadly no, it's mostly to do with outreach/orientation/ASW type stuff, and even then more on the back-end. As much as I would love to drop some Russia-tier HLS info for you all, sadly I have none to offer.

Just wondering, on what day am I going to be able to reach out to a new batch of admitted students regarding ASW and orientation? You're the best!

UVA getting in on the action today too.wheathins wrote:Did anyone notice the mini "massacre" going on in Columbia thread? Can't believe so many 170+ scorers are getting held/reserve.
I thought -- given how the number of 170+ test-takers were down this year -- high LSAT score may have more value than last year but I guess not.
Perhaps the number of 170+ is plenty enough that 170+ no longer really guarantees anything.

I think it's a possibility, but are there really that many applicants who retake Feb (especially without notifying schools of a retake in advance)? I can't imagine they'd wait on a handful of applicants...CHyde wrote:I wrote this on Columbia's thread but it may explain our current JS radio silence, too. Baseless speculation: Ad Comms are waiting for Feb LSAT Retaker scores to serve as a hail mary for medians. Possible? Probable? Just bouncing off a post you made in the Spivey thread a few days ago, I think you hit the nail on the head. Numbers really don't guarantee anything, despite what my LSN may indicate. It seems that, almost every year, YLS lets in a sub 160. HLS has rejected 180s in the past. Maybe there's some YP in the lower t-14, but I think a lot of what we attribute to YP boils down to whether the ad coms think an individual would make a solid contribution to the overall class that they're building. Or, maybe it is all numbers based, and CLS decided that they're going to Hammy and Butler their way into T3 status this year. I honestly don't know. If I ever profess to know, please burn me as a witch.wheathins wrote:Did anyone notice the mini "massacre" going on in Columbia thread? Can't believe so many 170+ scorers are getting held/reserve.
