Re: Northwestern 2011 Applicants
Just withdrew and put 30k (total) back in the running. Hopefully a few TLSers get pulled from the hold list and offered schollies.

I gave up a 120k as well--kind of want to call and say "PLEASE IGNORE MY FAX"--hope the money is used for TLSers though.meryl wrote:Gave up 150 K and withdrew today. Good luck everyone waiting!

Re: Northwestern 2011 Applicants
So weird question. I got accepted a two or three days ago via e-mail; is it appropriate for me to respond to the e-mail and thank them or something along those lines.
What is the protocol in such situations. I feel as if one someone offers you an acceptance, you have to thank them, but I also recognize that they are a busy bureaucracy.

In my experience they give off a very personal vibe, so I'm sure a thanks would be appreciated.antonin wrote:So weird question. I got accepted a two or three days ago via e-mail; is it appropriate for me to respond to the e-mail and thank them or something along those lines.

Do they inform us when more money becomes available? An application process?
I think even if money is available, it will be weird offering it to us after telling us that there is no money left.

I doubt that much more money will be handed out.antonin wrote:Do they inform us when more money becomes available? An application process?

The way I see it is that they hand out scholly money like they hand out acceptances. They assume that a certain percentage are going to turn it down so they hand out more seats and more money than they actually have. When someone turns down a scholly, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is more money available and it very well may be that no more scholarship money is given out for the rest of the cycle.

We are writing to inform you that we have currently allocated and exhausted all available scholarship and grant funding for this year. Scholarships and financial aid is a tremendously difficult matter. Every year, we have many more deserving students than we have funds available. This year is no exception.
However, we would like to keep you under consideration for any financial assistance that may come available after the scholarship deadline of April 15th. Pending your confirmation e-mail (noted below), we will provide you with your final grant information prior to the April 29th deposit deadline and we expect to notify you starting after April 22nd with the final results.
All initial grant recipients must accept or reject their grant awards by April 15th. Upon receipt of their responses, we will immediately determine whether or not we can award any additional grants. Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to predict the final outcome or any anticipated grant amounts prior to April 15th, since results have varied greatly from year to year. Please be aware that, regardless of grant funding, we can provide you with loans to cover 100% of your educational expenses.
This also means should you be awarded a scholarship, you will have until April 29th to make your enrollment decision and we will not be able to extend your tuition deposit deadline.

Confused why I don't have a decision from NU yet. Submitted 1/7 -- "complete" 2/15 after interview. It's now been 9 weeks since the February completion date. Status updated to "complete" again as of 4/9, and today the status checker indicates I don't exist in the system: "The information you entered does not match any of our records." Just want my cycle to be over!

The status checker has gone down before. I am on "hold" and it says it can't find my info either. The 8 wk was just a general time frame, many people got their decisions much later.srvyorgeneral wrote:Confused why I don't have a decision from NU yet. Yeah the checker is down. I checked earlier today and it was fine and now it's not pulling up anything.gov wrote:The status checker has gone down before.
