Yeah, I wasn't really trying to argue about it (not that civil arguments are a bad thing), I was just trying to share my perspective on it.r6_philly wrote:Haha it's ok, I wouldn't be surprised if they did.TheOcho wrote:Maybe they didn't send it to those who were presumably going to be rejected soon? But if that is true then this is a "deferral/hold" email then. It's funny we are arguing about the semantics of something that didn't really make any difference.

Re: Michigan 2011
Is it appropriate to respond to the email informing them that my fall grades were sent and processed by LSAC, with a short paragraph how I remain interested in Michigan and hope they find the grades helpful in their continuing evaluation of my application or something along those lines? Or is that unnecessary?
Also, if I were to respond to the email, would I literally reply to the email they sent or is there a better email address to send such an email to? Thanks.

Forgive me for being a little behind... but would someone mind recapping what this email business is all about? I've read through most of the last 30 posts, but still missing something...
Was it sent to people who submitted / went complete before a certain date? Did Dean Z post on this thread directly or is that someone's alias? That seems like a really naive question, even even to me
I submitted at Thanksgiving and went complete just before New Years - no email, but wasn't expecting to hear anything yet... as a splitter who has yet to hear good news, this game sucks

Essentially, some people who had a status checker by at least 12/15 received an ambiguously worded email that kind of seemed like a hold letter, kind of not.PuckCU06 wrote:Forgive me for being a little behind... but would someone mind recapping what this email business is all about? Not everyone who had a status checker pre-12/15 got it, but no one post-12/15 got it. I think? Something like that.
Anyway, fear not.

Edit: Seems like my time frame was wrong. If you got your status checker before 12/15 I would start thinking about preparing additional materials if Michigan is among your top choices.

I received my status checker on 12/15 and no email from Michigan.r6_philly wrote:I submitted 11/18 and got the checker email 12/15. I was able to log in before then and see complete though because I had a UM ID already.
Anyway good luck to all of you! I don't know what to expect for myself. Maybe an email is on the way to me as well.
I did get an email from Pacific McGeorge offering a BJ and a lifetime supply of medical marijuana if I submit an application.
Dealbreaker. I just withdrew my acceptances at Penn Duke Northwestern & Georgetown. I'm heading to the Sacramento Valley.

^Like r6, it took me about 4 weeks to get mine as well (submitted 11/08 -> status checker 12/09), but you should be getting yours any day now. Your longer delay is slightly more understandable though, since your 4 weeks ran into the holiday season.

I did update my file via LSAC as soon as fall grades (4.0) were in, any idea how long it would take for Michigan to receive this info? Hopefully that can help avoid a WL or worse.

Check in LSAC account, Apply - > report status. Click on Michigan and see if there is a PDF generated for that transcript update. If there is a PDF then they received it.TheOcho wrote:I did update my file via LSAC as soon as fall grades (4.0) were in, any idea how long it would take for Michigan to receive this info? Re: Michigan 2011
So I did some LSN acceptance rate calculations on people who went complete prior to 12/15 for people with numbers similar to mine.
Last year 86% were accepted 2% rejected and 12% waitlisted
This year 29% who went complete prior to 12/15 were accepted while the remaining 71% are still pending.
Unless their standards have changed a lot, I think that there have to be some acceptances among those who got the e-mail (assuming that the majority who went complete prior to 12/15 got the email)

I'm right in the middle of the pool and applied way early, as soon as the app was up and ready, but I didn't get this email. Do they do rejections by snail mail and acceptances by e-mail? Or both by mail? My mail is all getting sent to school, so hopefully there's a chance I got a good letter and not a bad one?? Or do they only send bad letters...r6_philly wrote:For the record, I have not received this UM email yet. I got the checker 12/15 so maybe they haven't gotten around to mine/ours yet

Snail mail rejections have been received, so I would imagine that all of them go out that way. Your status checker would eventually change to decision and you wouldn't be able to get into the admitted student site though. So double check that isn't the case.ko2689 wrote:I'm right in the middle of the pool and applied way early, as soon as the app was up and ready, but I didn't get this email. I got that weird hold-ish email yesterday as well and I'm really not sure what to make of it. LSAT and GPA are >75% and at 75% respectively but I included a Why Michigan with my app. YP? or not a hold at all and more of a "we're working on getting you a decision, please dont stress" email?
FWIW I got my status checker 12/15.

I applied 11/13, got the status checker on 12/15, and got the e-mail yesterday.
3.8/174, wrote a Why Michigan. I like Michigan a lot and was really hoping for some money out of them, but now that seems unlikely. I'm not sure what to send in (other than grades, which are on the way). LOCI soon? Hm.
