This may be true, but you should always ask anyway. I withdrew yesterday and I hope one of you gets my merit aid.

And if you do get my spot, PM me so we can discuss you subletting the apartment in Ivy that I already signed a lease for!

i want this and a spot in Ivy SO badly. The only thing that would make my happiness about being able to go to Virginia even greater would be also having a spot in Ivy Gardens.

It's a fair point, but really the law students who live on Ivy Road are almost all in Ivy Gardens. If I local mentioned Ivy to me, I'd think about the road or the place. If a law student mentions it I'm thinking of Ivy Gardens.

Ivy road unsurprisingly leads to Ivy, a village a few miles outside Charlottesville. I think a few professors live there.

I think he was just on the WL at UVa, so it was somewhat misleading for him to say that another spot was open.

UVA has one of the lowest acceptance rates in the country, ~10 percent i believe. They waitlist in droves and only take a handful of students off (students that would, in all likelihood, have gotten in with their numbers if they applied earlier or been marginally better in some way unrelated to numbers).

This is accurate. By far the easiest way to get accepted to UVa is to apply early, and to apply early decision (though this may well leave you paying sticker or close to it).

UVA has a good explanation as to why they still consider you equally for scholarships even if you apply ED. If it was apparent that ED applicants weren't getting a fair shake, people would stop using it. Obviously, ED helps them plan for yield and numbers a lot and they wouldn't want that to happen.

You're welcome! I'll be going to Texas. They offered me enough of a scholarship that I think it made the most sense. For what it's worth, UVA indicated that they may have additional funds to redistribute later in the summer.

Edit: Similar issues for me as you debating about Minnesota.

So Anne Richards just sent out the weekly update e-mail and said that no seats opened up this past week. We know for sure that at least one person (our very own unlicensedpotato) called and gave up his spot. Does that mean they were "overbooked", or is something else going on?

It's possible that his particular withdrawal wasn't noted on her weekly report, she may just have an update up to end of business day Wednesday or something.

Then again, if it was just ONE withdrawal, would she advertise that?

haha, Really guys? They do not have an exact number of students they want. They want around a certain number, i dont think they want exactly 328 students lol. I doubt you would ever receive an email from a dean saying "Hey everyone! We had 1 seat open and admitted 1 lucky person off the wait list this week, yay for that person!" Now if there is a significant withdrawl they may admit more people. They do need to be careful, lets all remember 2-3 years ago when they had to give people $$ to take a year off (defer)
