Oh well thank you! But I'm not too surprised. I didn't put much extra effort into my Penn application and I'm sure they could tell. I wouldn't take it as a bad sign for your own chances.Liquox wrote:aekea wrote:Waitlisted. UCR 12/19 and 1/19.

Yep. They offer general, variable-amount law school scholarships. They didn't seem to run out of merit aid until late-April last cycle.jpal13 wrote:If I didn't get a scholly invite Friday am I still being considered for other merit based aid?

What schools does Penn consider its peers for scholarship money? Will money from gtown do anything for me ?

MVP, maybe DN? Doubtful on GULC, although it wouldn't hurt to try.AbLSAT wrote:What schools does Penn consider its peers for scholarship money? Will money from gtown do anything for me ?

They gave consideration for MV, but did not give it the same weight. DN and down not so much.Smumps wrote:MVP, maybe DN? Doubtful on GULC, although it wouldn't hurt to try.AbLSAT wrote:What schools does Penn consider its peers for scholarship money? Will money from gtown do anything for me ?

Not only can you take classes over there, some law classes are also taught by Wharton professors. I hope you wrote that in your Why Penn! Good luck!

Yes, I caught the Penn bug recently too... I wish I had fallen in love with Penn a few months earlier and ED'ed there.. I mean - how amazing to have Penn AND Wharton on your resume after doing the business & public policy certificate???Mr. Somebody wrote:The more I read about Penn the more I want to get inTaking classes at Wharton would be so cool

On this note, what is the consensus on those informal "I will attend if admitted" commitments? This is the case with me at Penn, and I am partially inclined to write that, but I also feel like since it's informal they might not give it much credence. I also worry that it could sound desperate/unprofessional. Also, I sort of indirectly indicated it in prior correspondence by referencing a personal reason for me to prefer Penn over other top schools to which I have already been admitted.Jewel628 wrote:cogitoergosum wrote:Yes, I caught the Penn bug recently too... But with all of that being said, if Penn pays close attention to yield like people say they do, I could see it being a positive addition to my application... Any thoughts on these types of letters generally and more specifically whether I should write one?

I think these kind of "pre-emptive attacks" before you have even gotten a decision is too popular here on TLS. Did you already write the Why Penn?/Five Year plan? If so, I would hold off on sending additional materials for now. Penn is a popular, elite school, you can imagine how many students would be willing to attend if admitted, so this isn't going to impress them.cogitoergosum wrote:On this note, what is the consensus on those informal "I will attend if admitted" commitments? And my impression from the Penn office is that they're not as accessible or personal as say, Michigan or Virginia. I still love them of course and know they are working hard on my app

I was thinking the same thing, but I was told by a reliable source that sending additional information when you haven't even received any response yet is a no-no. Supposedly, it tells the Committee that you didn't try to put your best foot forward in the first place. Or in other words, that you doubt the strength of your own application . . .
I am not sure if this is true . . . but at this point, I am just afraid that sending something new will push me back in terms of review dates . . . this has already been excruciating enough.
I submitted my application on 11/20.

I was complete 11/4, and I went UR 12/19 and 1/24. I was rounding off four weeks to a month, but I technically I hit the 12-weeks-from-completion deadline last Friday.captainwasabi09 wrote:When did you go UR?crumpledq wrote:Dear Penn,

Ok. I wouldn't sweat it since your last UR date was so close. I was complete 1/6, UR 1/23 and 1/26 so we should hear back around the same time. Are they significantly less generous than Michigan? I got a really unexpected scholarship from Michigan, and while my heart is with Penn, it'd be hard to pass up. I'm just trying to get my expectations in line.r6_philly wrote:They gave consideration for MV, but did not give it the same weight. DN and down not so much.Smumps wrote:MVP, maybe DN? Also, did you pass up money at Mich for Penn? What influenced your decision?

Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I am so tired of this wait!! Between this and waiting for my October score, I've been living in a constant state of intense anticipation for over four months... I feel like my muscles are permanently tensed up... kind of serious. And my productivity has been at about .75 all this time because I'm incessantly TLS'ing to see if there's something new. I hope that this doesn't do lasting damage to my work ethic, because I'm going to need that next year..
Okay, done. Back to Posterior Analytics (with my computer open to allow for regular TLS/status checks).

Still seeking others who received the hold e-mail on 1/27... doesn't seem like there are many (any) of us on here. Reading through last years stuff didnt show many either, though I remain optimistic because the ad hoc hold thread with all of the >10 people on it seemed to mostly get good results.

Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
MVP and B seem to be my limit. I got the hold from Chicago, and I'm in from Duke on up. Somebody in this range has to tell me something! Or maybe they'll just hold my application forever. Like if law schools were collectively a Bed Bath and Beyond, MVP and B would be the Beyond. Stuff goes in, and you're not really sure what's happening, but they never come out.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
