Should I be confused as to why people who submitted after me have gotten earlier UCR dates? I submitted 1/09 and didn't get my first UCR until 2/11...

That's my last and only UCR date as well. Do you mind sharing your stats?bistduverrueckt wrote:So should I be worried that I still have not heard anything and my last UCR date is 1/3?

Ah, ok. I guess the process isn't completely rolling, or maybe we just aren't seeing the entire picture.arism87 wrote:I applied 12/14 and went UCR 1/26 IIRC.. it doesn't SEEM to mean anything (?) but it sure feels awful..jrose5 wrote:Congratulations!niederbomb wrote:Accepted via email!

Yeah maybe I'm wrong, I haven't followed this thread too closely, but I don't see any pattern. Ugh.jrose5 wrote:Ah, ok. No, but I'm overseas, so they didn't call. I got an "admitted students" email that said I should have already received a phone call, so you should hear earlier than me. Good luck!arism87 wrote:Congrats!! Is it normal to hear via email?niederbomb wrote:Accepted via email!

No. They already sent out a round of named schollies, but I believe they keep rolling (could be wrong). Dean's are coming later this month I believe.ksimon2007 wrote:Will scholarship info come with our admissions package?

Oh man...bummer sorry to hear that.
I feel like i'm gonna get WLd too :\
Been UR for a long time
There's no set % of WL that get in. Changes from year to year. Don't think the top schools utilized the list much last year because of severe over-enrollment. But i hear 2 years before that, there was quite a bit of movement on the WLs.

I can't come up with an explanation. I had a pretty strong application. I showed a very strong interest in Public Interest Law could it be they filled their Public Interest "quota"?. I applied around January 20. A little late.....could that have been the issue? I went under review Feb 15 and got an answer in 3 days!!! The whole thing is strange.DeeCee wrote:WOW, I would have thought you were a total in with those numbers! Perhaps you could send in a LOCI?thekunstis wrote:Just got wait listed with a 171 3.97!!!!!! Unfortunately Penn's been doing quite a bit of YP. Did you write a Why Penn or answer the 5 year prompt? It seems that people who are likely to get into other schools have been getting the WL unless they went out of their way to prove their interest in Penn.thekunstis wrote:I can't come up with an explanation. Wrote a 5 year plan/Why Penn, focused more on the 5 year plan then the why penn, but that was primarily the question. Would it make sense that they would YP me with a 171??law_monkey wrote:Unfortunately Penn's been doing quite a bit of YP. Did you write a Why Penn or answer the 5 year prompt? FWIW, I wrote the 5 year plan essay and treated it as a Why Penn. I thought it was very strong and showed real interest in the school. A lesson for future applicants might be to write two of the essays if you really want to convince Penn you're into them. I wish I had now.sgtgrumbles wrote:Just got waitlisted. Above 75th LSAT, around 25th GPA. Penn was one of my top choices, so this is kind of a bummer. I intend to do something to signal my continued interest, but since they "will begin the review of wait listed candidates in mid-May", I don't know if I'll be in a position to enroll there.

I wrote a 5-year plan (that was really a Why Penn) and the lit/art essay. Guess this year they reaaally wanted two essays?

Re: Penn 2011
maybe, I just wrote the one diversity one. and it was a total afterthought that I sent in a week or so after my application because people on here said it was pretty much required (to do an essay). It seems every year people who seem to be shoo-ins, don't get in, and people who you wouldn't think would, do. Who knows what's up with those adcomms.dulcatis wrote:I wrote a 5-year plan (that was really a Why Penn) and the lit/art essay. Guess this year they reaaally wanted two essays?

I was completely unqualified and received a quick W/L decision; Should I bother submitting another essay? If so is there an essay topic that they prefer?

Yes, write the "Penn and My 5-Year Plan." Maybe if you rewrite the LSAT in June, they might take you off WL.East Coast Law wrote:I was completely unqualified and received a quick W/L decision; Should I bother submitting another essay? Also, I think their fee waiver policy is rather extreme. My first LSAT was pretty similar to yours, and they had already sent me a fee waiver before the second, much higher one came in. Way to game the rankings. lol
Will sell my Penn spot for a U of C acceptance.

Re: Penn 2011
Why would Penn offer the choice of writing 1 of 3 essays if they really wanted you to write 2 essays or the really preferred one essay topic over the others? That seems stupid. I mean a full optional essay is already more than a lot of schools require. I only wrote the Arts and Literature essay, because I didn't bring diversity (or not in a meaningful way I wanted to discuss) and because I have no idea what my 5 year plan is. I'm not Stalin.

Re: Penn 2011
I feel a little more bitter about the Berkeley PS requirements. It seems like they're not joking when they say 4 pages, whereas I had only considered that a max/limit. I thought that being concise was a virtue in the field of law, but many of us have gotten outright dings because of 2 page statements. If they really want us to write more or write about Berkeley, why not just say so? It feels like a mind game to me.
I suppose Penn just wants to have more material to work with. As the user above stated, he/she got in with just 1 essay and numbers that weren't truly stellar for Penn, so are we perhaps overstating the importance of multiple essays...? I'm not sure.

I think people are just bitter b/c Berkeley has holistic review of applications--I only wrote 2 pages and I got in with the first round of admits (no CR) and mediocre numbers...

Re: Penn 2011
Your #s are not mediocre, not for Berkeley.tipler4213 wrote:I think people are just bitter b/c Berkeley has holistic review of applications--I only wrote 2 pages and I got in with the first round of admits (no CR) and mediocre numbers...
I suppose you may be right. It's just that I've already gotten quite a bit of scholly $ from schools that didn't give scholly money at all to people with my #s (or just waitlisted them). So I assumed that the soft factors of my application were at least decent. On the other hand, the trend I've been noticing amongst auto-rejects from Berkeley (some ridiculously high #s) is that we did not write anything tailored to Berkeley and our PS were far shorter than 4 pages. I made an inference from all of that.
Anyhow, this is a Penn and not a Berkeley thread, so we definitely veered way off topic!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
