Its not going to work the day you update. I wouldn't take that to mean anything.

Here's another guess:

Somebody splits the apps up and sorts them. Then, they're thrown in the firey pits of hell, where they are casts in to tuition-backed securities by former day traders at Lehman Brothers (second complete date). After they are split into securities with different credit values, the federal government gets a hold of the applications through a TARP (troubled application relief program) where they assign new federal-govt. style dates to them (third date). After this, the TARP apps are repurchased by Georgetown who shorted them right before the market crash and made a killer profit (fourth date). At this point, a string of lawsuits begins over whether the ED applications were even SIGNED by the staff, leading GULC's stock to tumble 4% in 20 minutes. At this point, stock trading volume is through the roof, and applications are trading hands like crazy! (5th, 6th, 7th dates). Eventually, the stock market settles when the Dean of Admissions comes in to announce QA2 (Quantative Acceptances Two) akin to basically printing off acceptances. The tea party goes insane, and the original applicants finally find out about their pre-approved acceptance into the t14.

This makes more sense. I really don't see how this ISN'T the way this process works.

Yeah, with that 3.3 (I stopped to look at stats) you're going to need all the academic support you can get. Solid academic LOR's will go a far way in clearing up any questions that might be lingering on that front. Get the letter in ASAP, otherwise you're prob. leaning towards the big double-u ell.

The letter I have right now is from a law professor and is very strong. I also have pretty good addendum stuff (work full time, family illness, significant upward trend).

In the past, has it been the case that decisions issued off the same complete day have all been similar? i.e. all 11/xx or have been either accept or waitlist/deny.

Or is it that some part of the population gets accepted, while others dinged?

This is a tough question to answer. It seems like most have received the same decision. However, if you look at LSN, so far in this cycle there are 10 Acceptances for every 1 Rejection/Waitlist. At some point the Rejections/WLs are going to become more frequent. So.... Maybe?

I can't remember which date it was but there has been at least one mixed bag. I thought they were admits because of the people with high numbers who also updated on the same date, but then a few people reported emails of WL/rejections shortly after the update. Those with high numbers received letters a few days later.

Not sure what you mean, but I sent my application on 11/6 and got an email that my application had been received on 11/8. My current status on the checker is still "Application completed."

Oh yeah yeah yeah, I was planning on EDing to UVA whenever this God forsaken letter gets in. I know I have no shot in hell at UVA RD. As a 171/3.3 I'm looking at a WL at Georgetown though? I thought I saw someone with similar numbers get in already. I submitted mid-November and have had three complete dates already. I'm really just clinging on to some hope here, I'm terrified I won't get in anywhere because I have to limit myself geographically.

Someone with almost identical numbers already got in RD to Georgetown, but they had an interview before being accepted. I think with your numbers you'll probably get an email requesting an interview.

I think it could go either way honestly with GULC and a 170/3.3 & only 1 letter to back it up... We'll see I suppose. Still, I would ED to UVA asap. Should lock things up for you hopefully. Good luck.

No one has any idea what it means, but if you can get a username and password for the Admitted students site, that's probably a good sign. Otherwise, you're still in the dark with the rest of us.

These numbers don't actually mean anything interpretable. All an update means is that something happened with your application.

This could range from it being stamped accepted to being vomited on by a 1L and summarily discarded.

12/6 here, and I just got my username/password to the admitted students page. I had checked it a couple hours ago, and it didn't work then. Tried again just now and I got the email. Though weirdly I can't login with the username/password that were emailed to me. Not worried though.

I'm in the exact same spot. I'm glad to see it's finally changed since 11/12
