Just got an e-mail telling me they are holding me over to Regular Decision from EA. I'm actually surprised I didn't get outright dinged since people with far superior numbers are getting rejected. I'm 161/3.53. I know I still don't have much of a shot but I'm happy to still be in the game.

I got an e-mail today saying they're holding me over to the Regular Decision admissions pool. I'm a little frustrated, because I was above the 75th in LSAT for UT, and my GPA is within their 25-75.

I can't figure out if their holding me over means they can't decide whether to admit me, or if it's a timing thing (i.e. they've already filled up their ED spots. My application wasn't complete with them until about 10/27). Thoughts anyone? Should I be worried? Hopefully the other top schools don't do this to me as well...

It seems like theyre going to town holding EA's to RD/rejecting people under 3.6, no matter the lsat.

Congrats, but don't hold your breath for scholarship money with those numbers. Others have been held over into the RD pool or even flat out rejected with similar. It does seem like UT is fishing for high GPAs this year though. At least this early in the cycle.

Yeah, I looked at law school numbers and last cycle everyone at the 168 range with a 3.45+ was accepted. *sigh* While not a top choice, I would have loved to go to UT and considered it to be a pretty much spot on target.

My numbers are close to yours, and while optimistic about UT in the beginning, I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I will probably get dinged or WL'ed. Don't worry, there are plenty of other schools out there for us!

Texas resident, sent app the Monday after the Sept. LSAT scores arrived.
Mexican father and white mother (I checked both boxes on app).

I guess UT wants to boost their GPA median this cycle considering the ding of 168/3.4+ people.

P.S. How high up should I apply? I have no idea what, if any, boost I get from being half Mexican. Fee waiver's came from Duke, Penn, UoV, and Chicago ( I was surprised by that one). Got an email from Harvard (the latino/hispanic email thing) inviting me to apply. Would I have any chance there whatsoever? I can't imagine the bump would be that much. Thanks

This is definitely the case. Improving the student body is a big part of the current push that the administration is conducting. One of the reasons the class size has been decreased, aside from increasing $ spent/student and lessening the "big school" stigma, has been to tighten up the numbers. My class has 379 students; just a few years ago the class size was about 415-425.
