How hopeful are we of a JS1 invite this week?

Extremely hopeful. Delusionally hopeful. I'd say there's an 85% chance that the first wave hits this week.

Do you think that they send out the invites based on how early one applies (i think this has been mentioned before), or do they pick their ideal "first wave" line up? Like they get all of their top choices first?

It is much closer to the latter. If you applied first day/week but don't get a first wave JS1 it doesn't mean you have been skipped over, they go mostly by high stats (above both medians and at least one 75th, generally) for the first waves

Do the waves come closely knit together? As in there is no huge break between JS1, JS2, and JS3? Also, If it is the case that 70-75% of those who get interviewed get accepted (see above) then it should not be too worrisome if you do not get JS1 right? Unless you take that to be a sign that you are that 30% right? lol

Hmm, I think you are a bit confused about what the JS# means. The number does not denote the wave of interview invite, but rather a JS1 is an interview (whether first wave in early November, last wave in March or later, or somewhere in between, they are all considered "JS1"s). A JS2 is a call from the admissions team informing you of acceptance. Part of the reason it is called a JS2 is because you have to get a JS1 first (must be interviewed before acceptance). There is nothing beyond a JS2 (although some people refer to waitlist offers as JSWs). I hope this clears things up, but if it doesn't or if I misunderstood your question let me know.

Sorry you are 100% correct, I am a dummy for rushing the post. I meant to say JS1 (first wave), JS1 (second wave), JS1 (third wave) ,etc. I meant to use the numbers as a subscript denoting each wave to be separate from the next. The question should read like this:

Does not being included in JS1 (first wave) or even JS1 (second/third wave) indicate that one should be worried, given (and taking to be true) what the above posters were talking about? (the fact that 70 of interviewees get accepted)

First page of this thread has every single JS1 wave from last year. Once they start they are very frequent so I wouldn't be worried about the first first wave. Also, no one can really say if you will or won't get the first wave so not much point sweating that

Yeah last year's OP (s/o to Hilde) did an awesome job tracking all the JS1 waves and this year's OP has all of that info for you Beckett, and regarding your personal chances Pretzel is right that it is super hard to predict any individual person, just that the first waves in general have higher stats. Regardless of whether you get first wave you are in a prime position with stats above both medians.

And pretzel, no slots open yet, hopefully soon.

Very soon after you receive the JS1 invite your status checker will show "Email - interview scheduled" in the mailings section. To the best of my knowledge this doesn't happen prior to the email being sent, so you probably won't find out from the status checker unless you check it more frequently than your email (which I would not recommend, for the record). This thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=242042 has useful information about what happens re: status check/notifications for the T14 (including wonderful HLS), so it may be helpful if you have further questions.

As to rico's assertion, while that is a possibility, I think it is unlikely. TLS'ers are generally pretty highly represented in the first waves (because TLS users are skewed toward 1) highly qualified applicants and 2) people who apply early, both of which are necessary for first wave JS1). It is possible that the application slots that I saw open last week were indicative of a very small first wave of JS1s (only 12 spots as opposed to the 40+ that are usually in the first wave) but this also seems super unlikely because all the slots were taken down at the same time (or at least within a couple of hours) and it is unlikely that all the JS1 invitees scheduled their meetings within that time frame (it generally takes a few days). Anyway, fingers crossed for the JS1 floodgates to open for you all very soon.

joking aside, i agree that TLS will definitely have at least one JS1 (knock on wood, of course). it's unusual to have a forum where folks legitimately talk about getting YP'd at HLS
