Submitted my application late Feb due to Feb LSAT. Still no word yet. Do you think they will give most decisions by April 1st due to the deposit deadline? I'm getting nervous over here.

I did get a confirmation email, not sure if you meant no response at all or just no direct scholarship response.

Submitted neg. form, got an email back that they could not increase my offer.
In other news, 2017 US News law school rankings came out. SMU Dedman @ 45. Does anyone know if that is a drop or an increase? Either way I like ATL rankings better.

The rank of SMU is completely irrelevant to local hiring.

Will the status checker say anything other than "Application Complete"?
Do they update when it goes out in the mail?
THanks in advance
EDIT: to clarify, do they ever update when it is under review with committee? Or is it just complete ----> "Decision made"

Honestly I didn't notice my status checker had changed at all until after I was accepted. I was notified of acceptance via phone call, and 24 hrs after the call my status checker changed again and showed scholarship $$$. About a week and a half after the call I received my info packet in the mail.kayano774 wrote:Will the status checker say anything other than "Application Complete"?

I just withdrew as well, so hopefully a deserving waitlist candidate gets my spot! Best of luck to you all going forward. SMU is a great school and I enjoyed my time in graduate school there very much. If anyone still has any general questions about the school or Dallas, I'm happy to answer them if I can.

Re: SMU Dedman applicants c/o 2019 (2015-2016)
Well I dropped by for a visit to campus today, which the SMU campus is amazing, and the area is pretty nice a big leap up from my last college. The school of law (at least the building I went in which was mainly classrooms) really seemed dated. I don't know, but I kinda imagined a private school as nice as SMU charging 49k a year would have some pretty high end tech. So wasn't super impressed by that, but the classrooms of course is only a portion of the time you spend dedicated to law school so not a deal breaker or anything. Maybe we can get some updates over the coming years.
Stopped by the bookstore, there was a girl there buying a bunch of school of law stuff (picked up a few things myself) if you are on here random future classmate, hello.
Anyways just thought I would give my 2 cents.
Looking forward to admitted students day on the first!

The law buildings haven't changed much since my dad attended SMU law back in the 60's. It's odd, but it's pretty much a non-factor.

Wifi, projectors, and outlets at every seat. Don't need any more tech than that.

Shout out to who ever made the decision to put outlets at every seat.BVest wrote:Wifi, projectors, and outlets at every seat. Don't need any more tech than that.

Well the room I saw the outlets were run under the desks and just standard metal boxes sitting there not sure if there was one for every seat but it might have been. Again this might have also been just the rooms I saw in this building.
But hey call me needy call me a millennial, at 50k a year I expected them to be a little more.... Modern.
But still as was said, classroom is only a small portion of the experience!

Don't visit UT then. (Though I guess the non-updated classrooms at UT are "modern" in the architecture/design sense of the word, but this is little comfort when you're jockeying for a back row seat not to hide from the prof but because you don't trust yourself to charge your laptop sufficiently before class.)PatriotP74 wrote:BVest wrote:Wifi, projectors, and outlets at every seat. e: I readily concede that Florence has some old-building issues, but they're not tech related. They're more along the lines of old/retrofitted mechanical fixtures (HVAC/Plumbing), narrow hallways and stairs, limited bathrooms, and windows that purport to open, but are given to the eccentricities of 90 year-old wood windows. And for the classrooms, what makes them look dated, in large part, is the use of oak chairs, which I find pop up at least somewhere on every law school campus (at UT, they're the majority of chairs at the library).

Florence actually was updated (slightly) over the fall and Christmas break. And yes, there are outlets at every seat in every classroom in the law quad. They are more than just little metal boxes sitting there.
Patriot - you're not paying for how "modern" a classroom is. I toured Baylor and their facilities were extremely "modern." But a very, very small niche of potential law students are drawn to Baylor. Facilities aren't everything.
You're paying for the network (primarily) and a legal education. People got a fine education at many law schools long before Wifi was a thing.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Is anyone considering a joint JD/MBA degree? They have a 3 year joint degree fast track program, must be intense.

Guys, I get it, I didn't mean my comments to start a debate haha I still like SMU, just expected more, just my own opinion! The building I went in was Florence, so that probably explains some things! I am sure I will get to see the other buildings on Friday while I'm at the admitted students day!
Speaking of, anyone here going to that? I will be going by myself so wouldn't mind meeting up with someone to start the day off!

I'll be there on Friday for admitted students day for sure, and down to meet before. PM me Patriot if you want to exchange numbers and set a place to meet up. Anyone else who wants to meet up feel free to do the same.
