I'll be in the area, so I'm going to check out the school in case I get accepted off waitlist. Has anyone done the same? Any recommendations?

I went not too long ago (after being wait listed). While they don't grant meetings, they will answer questions if you go into the admission office (so if you have an concerns/questions thats nice). I walked around campus and talked to a few students. It was nice to see cambridge and the campus (i'm from the mid-atlantic and have never been to boston/cambridge). I guess as far as advice dont be shy if you have questions ask

Do you guys know if WL JS1s are offered based on LSAT score, or is it arbitrary? I'm really hoping to be invited for an interview early on but my low LSAT might stop that from happening
i'm not sure of your specific situation but i would really consider retaking and reapplying next year (stay on the WL and hope for the best, but if it doesn't work out). a high GPA from an Ivy and really unique softs make you a VERY strong applicant if you can get your LSAT to 173+.
Unfortunately, I already took it twice and got the exact same score so I am not sure if I want to risk losing a year for a similar outcome. I also have an incredible scholarship from Cornell. I guess I should just hope for the best :)

I just checked the Harvard class of 2018 fb page and it has 550 members. Does anyone know how many people were in the group at around the same time last year? I'm hoping that this doesn't mean that there are only around 10 spots left.

Based on how large the pages tend to balloon to, I don't think its anywhere near 10 spots left. (Its a lot more).

april 3rd - 503 members
april 8th - 529 members
may 1st - 524 members

eta: on may 16th (a few days after the first js2 wave), the group went up by ~25 members. so roughly 550

definitely doesn't mean there are only 10 spots left considering their yield.

i think at this point the facebook group will be pretty standard, as people begin to withdraw from HLS OR join the group based on where they deciding to matriculate there

To write an LOCI or to not write an LOCI.....would it make a difference?

I think writing it within an update makes sense, but writing a LOCI solely expressing continued interest won't have an impact.

Is Phi Beta Kappa worth mentioning on a LOCI? I was reading about it and I saw that it might be losing the appeal it once had. I'm thinking about compiling all the stuff that's happened this semester and just putting it all together in one LOCI after the first wave of WL admits.

I wouldn't write an LOCI just for Phi Beta Kappa, but if you have other significant updates to make, including it would be fine.

PBK is basically just confirmation that you have a great GPA, which they already should know. I would hope they don't put much emphasis on it seeing as the great majority of undergrads don't even have it. It's a boomer anachronism that this generation just doesn't care about.

This seems to be the consensus.

I think PBK is worth mentioning but not worth writing an entire letter about.

I know TCR is usually not to send new LORs, but someone has offered to write one for me that would substantially add to a portion of my application so I'm definitely taking her up on it. I'm wondering whether it's okay for her to email them directly to the admits email - thoughts appreciated :D

i'd say do both. get her to submit to LSAC, but also send directly to the hls email.

Yes, do both. At this stage of the game you need it to the admissions committee before they look at your file again. LSAC can be slow to update applications with new LORs.

Is there a deadline to complete FAFSA/Need access if applicable?
A little confused here.

If there are any current or admitted students lurking on this thread, can you share when the housing lottery will happen?

Thanks leslie! Was hoping it would be a bit later, but makes sense.

There's this though, so there's hope for getting housing off the waitlist! Current students should correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of transfers and WL admits getting housing.

i know the mindset to be in for a waitlist is make other plans and if harvard calls it's a nice surprise. but i can't help but still think harvard is an option (which makes me less satisfied with my alternatives), even as i decide where to deposit. only a few more days until they (hopefully) start reviewing files...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
