Shoooot... a lot of other schools have SIR/deposit deadlines before that. It's going to be tricky trying to negotiate if they know deadlines have already passed for other schools. UCI is my top right now... only thing I'm holding back on is trying to get more $$$! Keep us posted if you hear anythingiguazu wrote:I gave it a shot and was told they'll reconsider schol$ in mid-April once they have commitments and more funds available. I'm also afraid that USNWR will steer accepted applicants away from the school. Which is unfortunate if it does. So sad so sad.
No way Irvine will be in the 40s. Worst case scenario is early 30s, best case scenario early 20s. Likely scenario is mid/late 20s.

yea it's because of 40% reputation score of USNWR
hopefully they do great, but im not going to give it a second thought if they don't because like we don't care about USNWR rankings right?

they would have to do extremely poorly in the reputation score to be in the 40s which won't happen. The major red flag is probably the bad employment rate with such a small class and bad bar passage rates for 2nd year in a row. Other than that they are built to be high in US news.

A UCI law prof made a comment to someone I know that he/she is expecting mid 30s. Just putting that out there, and withholding my own opinion, because as was said, it'll all come to light in a few days.spencercross wrote:Based on what?HalfStudent wrote:No way Irvine will be in the 40s. Yes, after a VM though. I know a lot of public institutions like to pull in out-of-staters a little more though because of out-of-state tuition.LawsRUs wrote:no did you get an email? i also didnt receive any dvdrion91 wrote:Have any 1Ls reached out to you guys?
I would be surprised if UCI made it anywhere better than 28 or so.

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2018
Toured the campus and met with Financial Aid last week. The tour was hosted by a current 1L; I found it be very informative. As expected, the campus was really nice and all of the staff and faculty that I spoke with were very friendly and helpful.
A few things I found interesting that you might not know from reviewing the admission packet:
(1) Approximately 80% of 1Ls live in the graduate level apartment complexes on campus--an approximate 5-10 minute walk to and from the law school.
(2) Only 2 students in the past three school years lost their merit scholarship due to academic performance.
(3) Median GPA: 3.3
(4) The school is in the process of designing and implementing a criminal law clinic (or clinics?), though in the event it is not available by the 2017-2018 school year, students interested in criminal law can pursue a "Special Clinic" through the OC District Attorney or Public Defender's offices.
(5) Property is not part of the 1L curriculum.
(6) The school doesn't rank its students.
Overall, it was a good experience. If any of you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Is UCI one of your top choices? Are you leaning toward matriculation or withdrawal?

Did the 1L seem happy with his or her experience at UCI?

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2018
You're more than welcome. I'm happy to share my experiences. And yes, I'm definitely enticed by the opportunity to avoid Property while suffering through Con Law and Contracts. Property is typically emphasized pretty heavily on the CA Bar, however, so I wouldn't dare finishing law school without it. That being said, taking it alongside 2 electives and a work study in Spring 2L or Fall 3L sounds far more appealing.LawsRUs wrote:Thank you so much!! UCI is my top choice. Though, I have a few other schools to look at in the upcoming weeks. Also, just as everyone else, I'm (impatiently) awaiting these rankings and hoping for a scholarship bump.

Unfortunately, I will not. I bought some pricey, non-refundable Fleetwood Mac tickets for that weekend long before UCI admitted me haha. I hope you all have a great time, however. I can't wait to hear about your experiences.LawsRUs wrote:@james,

I took the law tour in the fall, since I live in the area.iguazu wrote:Thanks for sharing. Anybody else visited yet? Next month seems like so far away
I also found it to be really informative. In talking more with a professor, he also mentioned that if there is not a clinic available in your field of interest, they will try to set you up with someone in the community. I didn't get a feel for how many times that's actually been done, but they do seem genuinely concerned about your development/experience.
I have to say, the thing about the tour that stood out most to me was the diversity of the group. I did tours at USC and UCLA and on both of these, I was the only person 1) not still in college and 2) not with their parents. When I took the tour at UCI, the group was 10 people or so. There were probably five mid 20s-early 30s working professionals, an active military guy with his kid, a middle-aged man, one guy still in undergrad, etc. I could have just chosen a day with a good mix, and maybe this isn't representative of the incoming class, but it was nice to see so many different backgrounds on the tour. Not to say there's anything wrong with coming from undergrad, but the mix is appealing

Has anyone tried negotiating scholarships yet? I think it might be in my best interest to do so before the rankings come out because the closest school I have to leverage with is Hastings... and I have a feeling UCI is going to rank much higher than them when the rankings come out. Thoughts? Advice?

I really don't think it will matter much - doubt they'll get back to you before rankings anyway.Drowninmyowntears wrote:Has anyone tried negotiating scholarships yet?
