Had my interview yesterday. I think it went really well. I don't remember seeing it earlier in the thread, but I got the question of what person I would have dinner with living or dead. It was a very different kind of interview then the other two I have had, and tis thread help me prepare for the questions so much better than I would have on my own.

You could look at the data from last year's spreadsheet.

Yeah, sure, I'll bite.

73 recorded interviews in that sheet out of 167 applicants. 32 accepted with interviews (43.8%). 11 wait-listed (15.1%), 28 decision pending (38.4%), 0 denied. That decision pending number is surely inflated by people who didn't edit to reflect admission. I'd think the actual acceptance percentage is somewhere closer to two-thirds, if we put half of the pending applications in acceptance and half on the wait-list, we'll get 46 (63%) admitted.

Now, going a step further, I sorted by interview request date. 31 applicants received interview invites prior to January 1st. Of those, 5 were wait-listed (16%), 4 are decision pending (13%), and 22 were accepted (71%). Of the five November invites, four were accepted and one is still listed as pending (but was probably accepted).

Hope that helps to shed some light on the situation. I was surprised that there were only five November invites in the spreadsheet last year -- seems like we already have more than that this year. No October invites are listed on last year's sheet.

This is very helpful, thanks for taking the time to do the analysis. I cannot wait for January to come so I can at least stop consuming this predictive information.

Allright so instead of everyone being confused about where the interview thread is and having to dig through it, here's a list of all the interview questions that were mentioned for UChicago in that thread:
Mr. Elshal wrote: Why law?
Why law now?
Why Chicago?
What am I doing between now and law school (I was a December graduate from UG)?
Resume related questions (questions about specific items or bullet-points on your rezzy).
Have you ever had a time when you were out of your element or comfort zone?
What is your greatest accomplishment?
If you could go back in time and redo one thing in your life, what would it be?
Discuss a memorable class or moment in a class.
Why did you choose your undergrad?
What is your preferred work style?
What do you do in your free time?
How would your professors describe you?
How would your peers describe you?
How would your coworkers describe you?
Do you have any questions for me?

I had my UChi interview last week with Raegan Butler (assistant director of admissions). She was pretty friendly and kept the conversation flowing. I didn't feel like I was getting grilled at all - it just seemed like they really did want to see if I had social skills and get a sense of how I would fit in their academic environment. She seemed thoroughly familiar with my personal statement/resume and tailored a lot of the questions (and some follow up questions) to my application. All of the questions I got are contained in the post above.

I thought this thread had already established that RD people won't get news until January?

we're not really sure at this point. that's how it was last cycle, but this year's first interview requests went out ~2 months earlier than last year's, so that gives some reason to believe that we could hear back sooner. otoh, they sent out an email saying that no RD decisions would go out until ED decisions were over, sort of implying that we shouldn't expect an earlier timeline. so nothing is certain at this point, imo.

So what's the conventional wisdom here on how many LORs to submit? A predicted 2 strong letters, or 2 strong+1 decent?

2 strong ones should be enough, no? Don't see how +1 decent could be more conducive to your application than 2 strongs alone. Unless of course 2 strongs are from employers, 1 from academic or vice versa.

Interview this morning. I think it went OK, I was nervous and I'm sure it showed. Every question I was asked is contained in pulstar1's post.

sorry to hear that! But with your numbers, you'd probably have to curse at your interviewer to get WLed/rejected.

Thanks :) We'll see! I guess I was kinda surprised by how...not smooth the conversation was? I felt that I answered the questions adequately but definitely not my best performance.

Had my interview yesterday with Raegan Butler, Assistant Dean.

I felt really good about it; she made it a pretty pleasant experience. Every question she asked me was on pulstar's list (except she asked me if I could have lunch with anyone, who would it be.... can't remember if that was on there or not).

She did give me some info that I think will be of interest to everyone. She said that I would receive my decision sometime in January, but didn't know if it would be at the beginning or the end of the month. So if you applied RD, don't hold your breath. Looks like it'll come in January.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
