They've always negotiated. They just play harder ball than others.onlyunholy wrote:I would be vey impressed if Loyola took notice of the more-informed student application pool or the boards with suggestions like these (the need to negotiating scholarships or relax stipulations, etc.) as a competitive near-requirement for schools in todays market with years like Loyola (huge drops in rank the last couple years, peer + higher schools with better stipulations/scholarships..).kcolleen wrote:In case anyone is interested, I received a letter over the weekend that bumped my scholly from 52k to 96k and lowered the stip from 3.2 to 2.8
I previously emailed the school about negotiating the scholly amount (which they promptly rejected) so I was very surprised to get this letter.
Anyone else??
That gives me some hope!.

I got in with 96k today. Honestly I don't think I would consider it unless it was more....

Also was accepted with scholly. I understand the relaxed stipulation will mean more students will retain their scholarships, but I still don't think they are offering enough money to those that would help/maintain their numbers..owlie wrote:They've always negotiated. So if a scholarship offer didn't come with the letter of admission, then it's not going to come at all, correct?

Wondering about this too because I just got my acceptance letter with no scholly offer. I have until April 30th to decide though, so maybe they'll throw some money later on?FutbolCrazy wrote:So if a scholarship offer didn't come with the letter of admission, then it's not going to come at all, correct?

Are you considering negotiating?FutbolCrazy wrote:So if a scholarship offer didn't come with the letter of admission, then it's not going to come at all, correct?
Anyone have any luck? I have some pretty competitive offers from schools ranked better so I'm not sure if it's worth the time...

Applied 1/27/14. Went complete soon after submitting, updated on 2/24 status: complete, and again complete on 4/2. Anyone updated 3 times without status change? Any idea what this could mean?

My status went from "Application Complete" to "Decision Rendered". I didn't see any in between and I checked everyday.

1) I haven't got anything from Loyola, however, I received a substantial scholly from a much higher ranked school in NY, but is it worthwhile to use them as leverage? Sure it's higher in rank, but will the regional-ness of NY vs. LA have any effect?
2) What's the general timeline I should start negotiating? Before/After the first deposit? I feel it would be awkward negotiating now and getting denied, only to send another negotiation letter after the first deposit deadline asking them to reconsider.
Very much like to stay in LA, but at full price of Loyola, I have to echo the same sentiments as the rest of the naysayers.

i don't think you should send anything before you hear a decision from Loyola (same for anywhere else). if your ultimate goal is to practice in LA, then its only natural for you to pick a school in LA. outside of T14, everything is regional. that's the unspoken rule. your recruiter will say, "higher ranked school? great. but we don't have any experience working with grad from that school so im sorry we cannot offer you a position." if you haven't heard anything from loyola by the time of first deposit (april 30th), put a first deposit down at the school that will fit with your plan B. in the mean time, think hard on plan B,C,D. and make sure you are HAPPY with all of the outcome. IMO, you can use the scholly from another school as leverage to negotiate out of WL or more scholly from Loyola.underwear wrote:1) I haven't got anything from Loyola, however, I received a substantial scholly from a much higher ranked school in NY, but is it worthwhile to use them as leverage? Sorry, I should have been more clear: I haven't received any $ from Loyola. Trying to leverage Loyola with said school.

So did everyone receive scholarship offers with their acceptance letter? Didn't get anything regarding financial aid and wondering if I should call and inquire.

Should come with your acceptance letter. Think the inside of a packet says if you didn't receive a letter, you didn't get one.
I sent an email to the Dean asking for any possible reconsideration but it doesn't look great considering other responses, at least before first deadline.
