In as of 1/16 with a small scholly! W&M is pretty high up on my list so I'm def. happy about it. Has anyone had any luck negotiating for more merit aid from them? Total COA is going to be a significant factor in where I ultimately end up and, as is, I'd be paying OOS cost for W&M.

My W&L offer was strong as well. I know each school is different, but it seemed strange how far apart W&M and W&L offers were, considering their similar job stats, rank, and location.

Yes, it means you are now in the general "not a sure thing" and "not an immediate rejection" pool. Your application will be considered against all the others beginning after the March 1 application deadline. Decisions will start rolling out for that pool of candidates around mid-March or early April. So... basically congrats on not being dinged right off the bat, but sorry you weren't admitted immediately.

I'm on hold for further review and I don't have any boxes. I think I may have had boxes when I was under my initial review but I'm not certain. Status definitely changes to "under review" or something similar before decision/hold update. You're probably in review.

Thanks. Forgot to mention that I went under review on 1/31 when my file was completed. Status currently reads "File is complete and in review process." I'm 89% sure that the boxes are new today, which caught my attention and I started looking through for other people who saw them too. I know its still way early to be hearing ANYTHING though, so I'm not totally sure that it actually means anything. I haven't read that anybody saw them without getting admitted soonish though (but it could be happening a lot without people posting about it). Who knows. Guess I just have to keep waiting

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I've had the same status for a few months now and didn't really know what to make of it or what was happening with my file... Apparently nothing until after March 1st.

The woman I spoke with from admissions (some of the nicest admissions staff ANYWHERE, by the way) explained that unlike most schools W&M does NOT have rolling admissions. They prefer to review the vast majority of applications against one another all at once, so they can put together a group with the dynamic they're looking for in that cycle.

Has anyone had success negotiating scholarships? I've now sent an e-mail to the main admissions dept and an individual admin I met at my undergraduate's Law Day, but I've yet to hear back.
