Unfortunately, I won't be making it down for ASW. I'm going a few weeks earlier to visit before other schools' deposit deadlines and see how I feel, if I need to put a deposit down somewhere, etc. I'm sure it'll be a blast though!

In via e-mail as of this morning. I was so excited except that the e-mail "Welcome From the Career Development Office" does not say anything about merit scholarships. I am financially independent and genuinely interested in pursuing a public service oriented career, so keeping law school debt down is a must for me. With a 174 LSAT, I thought that UCI might be perfect to work with those interests. I'm going to send a follow-up e-mail and at least open the conversation, but I'm nervous :/

Hey everyone! I'm a Canadian undergrad who was just accepted into UCI this morning via email (LSAT 167, GPA 3.2, applied March 12 - which is apparently super super fast??)!

Just wanted to ask about the ASW - is it worth going? There's the travel reimbursement, which is nice, but I'm pretty sure $500 won't cover a weekend + travel expenses from Vancouver BC. Plus I'd probably have to take some time off work, and....aiiesh.

Anyway, I'm still debating whether or not to take UCI up on its offer - are there any other Canadian law students on this forum, current or prospective, who can give me some advice?? Cheers and thanks!

While I am not Canadian, there are several attending currently that I know of. I am definitely going to ASW. I was there a couple years back with someone, and the experience cemented the decision for the student, as well as for me as a prospective. If you really plan on attending and can work it out, it is my humble opinion that you should.

Would you happen to know if those Canadian students are planning to work/practice in the US or are they aiming to transfer back to Canada?

They're going to like that LSAT, gpa might hurt a bit. My educated guess is they give you two years worth, and you might push them for a bit more. Good luck!

Notice that the bar passage rate is equal to the employment? In other words, if you passed the bar, you were eligible for employment. There was a bar passage anomaly for that year. Out of so few takers, if a handful don't pass then percentages are screwed.

Why do you say reality check? I thought the consensus was that the numbers would dip once the class size rose. Still, they held their clerkship numbers.

I'm still uneasy about prospects going forward though.

I say reality check because these numbers are slipping quicker than many people thought. Even those who passed the bar are struggling more than I would like to see (~10% at very small firms). Plus, for a school that's supposed to be PI oriented only THREE graduates are in public interest.

Look, I'm not trying to hate because I really really want to go to this school, but with these numbers it's going to be difficult to make them my top choice when it's all said and done.

I see. I noticed the low PI number as well as the 2-10 firm %. Definitely disconcerting, impossible to know where the numbers go from here with an increasing class size for 2017.

I got the acceptance package and scholly info via snail mail today. I live in SoCal and was accepted last week.
