Jealous. Seriously jealous. Congrats!
Did you send a LOCI (or multiple)? Write a Why Chicago? Would you mind PMing me some details? I see we have similar GPAs (which gives me hope!).

Are you considering attending beep, or did you already turn down a new lease and/or sign one in NY?

Impossible to say. So few people have come off the waitlist that the end of the cycle might as well have been declared in may. But I plan on waiting even until the week of orientation. Maybe by some miracle of God...onionz wrote:I assume no one has had any updates? Think we're basically done for the cycle?

Re: UChicago Waitlist 2013
Current UChicago student here. I hope none of you are giving up a full ride anywhere from this waitlist. I can tell you it's not worth it. The legal market still stinks, and UChicago is second to last or last among all the top law schools for on campus job interviews. That means if you're not in the top 20% -- and only 20% of you will be in the top 20% -- you might not get any callback because whichever market you're applying for will be down to their last few summer associate spots, and the only school that (occasionally) has job interviews after UChicago is Stanford.
The school is going to tell you that "everyone wants a UChicago kid" because of law & econ/ USA rankings/ some other reason. That is not true; every firm wants a UChicago kid in the top 20%. I have friends in the top 40% who cannot find a job. Pick your law school carefully; do not assume higher rankings = better school. Unless you go to Yale law, there is no such thing as guaranteed employment. In many cases, geography is more important than rankings. I am telling you this because I wish someone last year had told me.

Did they bid outside of Chicago? I'm honestly just curious if there are people in the top 40% who couldn't snag a NY gig.Cassandra_Troy wrote:Current UChicago student here. Of course there are. Top 40% doesn't mean you're guaranteed a biglaw job.Greenandgold wrote:Did they bid outside of Chicago? Biglaw jobs outside of Top 20% or so are scattered across the board.
So if Chicago has 60-70% biglaw + Fed. clerk rate (assuming those who got clerkship could have gotten biglaw), all or almost all of top 20% will probably snag these gigs and the rest (40-50%) will be dispersed among the 80% that want it.
Higher grades = higher chance but def. not guaranteed.
That leaves a good amount of people that aren't in ideal situations.
That said, Chicago has been in the top 3 for biglaw average/median for the past 6 years.
At same price, Chicago trumps all except CNP (HYS).
Obviously there are things you should consider (geography, etc.) but I think what he's saying is turning down a full ride at a T14 and hoping to be guaranteed a biglaw gig at Chicago is unwise.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
