You're a URM, not surprising.

What does the interview mean? Do they interview everyone or just the borderline cases?

This is a great idea. Please fill it out if you've been invited to interview. Someone should do this for the Harvard thread too.

Based on the numbers of people who reported so far ITT, looks like they are interviewing all presumptive admits and maybe people on the borderline. Not getting an interview invite seems like it might be a bad sign but sample size is too small obviously. No invite here but Chicago was an enormous reach for me so not surprised.

Good luck everybody!

I don't have an interview, but i have numbers in the range of those interviewed so far. Submitted in very early Nov though... Should I be worried?

Chicago's pretty high on my list!

If I had to guess, these interviews are to gauge interest. Chicago historically has a poor yield and this could be one way to fix that. So far several people with strong numbers have reported interviews - but remember Chicago waitlists a lot of HYS-secure candidates.

based on super small sample size, it looks like most people who got interviews submitted early (september)

has anyone who submitted later got an interview invite?

FAQS

May I request an interview?
While we understand that many applicants would like the opportunity to interview, our interviews are currently by invitation only. We will not be able to accommodate requests for interviews and ask that you not call or write to request an interview. Every application will be seriously considered on its merits and will receive a thorough, holistic review regardless of whether the applicant has been invited for an interview.

this implies getting one is good

Yeah--and I guess I'm just assuming a lot more people get interviews than will get in (not suggesting that it's absurd they'd not give me one--it wouldn't be)...but really we have no idea what the Chicago process is going to be like. But yeah--I agree about why they are doing them, but I'm holding out that they have only interviewed people who applied early!
