Also got rejected via status checker, and then now, like a minute after seeing it and starting this post, got the rejection email lol
Ah well. Wasn't totally thrilled about going to California anyways, but congrats to those of you who are and got in!

It means that you will be admitted today or tomorrow! I'm telling you, they're gonna love you more than they love me (I got a WL). Berk needs an old man in 2015.OldMan2015 wrote:Congrats to the guys that got in, and sorry for the people who were dinged. I haven't gotten a status checker update, e-mail, or phone call. Also above their medians and rejected by email today, not to mention work experience in software development (which I figured would help).explorergirl wrote:Dinged via email- it's my first rejection and, as Berkeley was my top choice throughout most of the cycle, I am angry! It was a but of a surprise, as i am above their medians. Looks like NYU it is, berkeley's loss
Edit: congrats to everyone accepted !
First rejection that has stung, but oh well, other fish in the law school sea.

Hey everyone, so I assume we all received the same email...
I write to inform you that your application at UC Berkeley Law School has passed an initial administrative review and has been selected for further consideration by the Faculty Admissions Committee. The Committee will begin deliberation on your application on February 17. We anticipate a final decision will be reached on or around March 9.
I'll be in Rome! So whatever, that's not too shabby

Whoa. I just got an e-mail saying I've essentially been pushed from FR1 to FR2. Three more weeks of waiting to find out if I have to leave the West Coast.
EDIT: I guess posting this means I've lost what little anonymity I had to the admissions committee, but I'm pretty sure my profile gave me away anyway.

So I did not know about this FR crap until today when I got the notice I was in it.... can anyone who got in via the first FR give me their stats (LSAT/GPA/softs) so I can compare/obsess about my chances?

I got in today via a phone cal from Dean Tom @ 1105 MST. WRT your question, after all of the admits yesterday, I figured what the hell do I have to lose by sending in a LOC and did. Mind you, it wasn't the standard word document/pdf LOC, but just an e-mail addressed to Dean Tom saying how sincerely interested I am in Berkeley, how I have been impressed by the attitudes of the students, and mentioned a very specific conversation I had with a prof that I emailed months ago (with just that purpose in mind - showing I have genuine interest and goals for attending.
On top of all that, I am a 3.4/167 non-URM.

Re: Bezerkeley Faculty Review Support Group 2012
Not quite safe to say, but I have been a busy body and applied for jobs alongside law school. Since I am not a J-KD, and would not be starting at entry level, I recently had a consulting offer paying more than 100k start and in 2 years, much more than entry level biglaw, and by the third year significantly more. It isn't about the money; I want to enter Law. But I also need to make sure I make prudent decisions. Law will always be there, but it is career limiting compared to an MBA since it is essentially a terminal degree and is specific. Much easier to do an MBA then JD than the other way around. But yeah, after getting job offers, I am forcing myself to back away from law and look at all my options. Did I mention I want to start having kids in the next 2 years? A lot of factors to cosnder, and even though I essentially will be getting paid to go to Berkeley (for free) due to the GI bill and the 2200 a month living allowance, waiting a year and starting an M7 MBA, consulting for 5 or years, and then doing law school would be an option.Kurst wrote:Congrats EMZE! But at the end of the day, Berkeley was always a very top choice. Between the location, atmposphere, class size, and its placement into a huge variety of fields, I feel much more confident with Berk than I did at GULC. Yeah, it would be harder to break into the DC biglaw market, but if I was to get back to DC, I would much much prefer working at the DoS as a Foreign Service Officer, since pretty much my entire background is tailored to that.
Only schools that could pull me from Berk are H and S. Currently held at H, and supposedly missed the initial rejection wave at S, so those arent exactly looking great. Yale said NO WAY. I grew up in NYC for 17 years, and while I love a lot about it when I visit after being gone for a decade+, the pace is trying on the soul. What is nice about the GI bill though is that I would receive 3k+ or so housing allowance, all the while not paying a penny at Columbia or NYU. As far as Chicago, dont get me wrong, I appears to me as a OL as an amazing school, but I don't really think Chicago is the best place for my wifes trade (I know that Chicago has everything, but she specializes in business with E Asia, making Berk an easy choice as far as she is concerned. MVPB, in my mind, are of al those, I choose Berk over AA, Philly, and charlottesville anyday.
Anyway, that was just my thought vomit. I may still consider a JD/MBA, which goes against all common doctrine on TLS, but heck, I eschewed all common TLS doctrine this cycle and my 3.4/167 has gotten me Berk, GULC, and everything I applied to in the T30. Only Yale and Mich have given me the thumbs down (with most others at a hold), so I have to believe I did something right. By the end of my cycle, I hope to put together a thread giving my perspective and input for other applicants who are applying heavily on softs. I mean, seriously, I will probably round out the bottom range for GPA for Berkeley this year, at least for the non-URM applicants (not looking to open up the whole Cali schools cant consider race argument).
Best of luck to all. If you have questions for me about my tactics that did not all exactly run counter to TLS doctrine, but were almost all invariably modified, please let me know. Or just wait for me to put it in a thread. Bottom line though was I stayed very aggressive throughout the process at all schools, sans Yale and Mich interestingy enough, and it seems that I am outperforming my numbers thus far.

I guess I'm in the second review of FR. I think someone asked this earlier but there was no response: How do the stats of FR1 admits differ from FR2 ones?
