Re: Penn State c/o 2015
I just called the admissions office. I just asked if there was something missing from my application since they received it on 1/25 and I still have not gone under review. The guy I spoke with told me they were behind this year due to staffing turnovers and that my application should be going under review "within this week." I am hoping to hear back from them before I have to give seat deposits at the other schools I am accepted to. Hope this gives some others that have been waiting a while some hope too! Good luck everyone!

Just got one! Came on here to see if anyone else did. I am going to withdraw. The school is too expensive for me.

Accepted today with $10,000 a year!!
I'm still waiting for decisions from a couple in-state schools I really want, but this is the best offer so far.
Anyone care to describe Carlisle?? I've never even been to Pennsylvania and I can't decided which campus to choose if I decide to go...

Re: Penn State c/o 2015
Ok- I'm a little late to the party here. I am considering Penn State among a handful of other schools. A few things to consider:
I'm specifically looking toward public interest law, at helping children and families in poverty as a child/poverty advocate. Whether this happens at a nonprofit, a government agency, or somewhere else has yet to be seen. I have no desire for "Big Law." Keep these things in mind:
1. I want to go to the BEST school possible.
2. Since making money is not my biggest concern, a school with a good LRAP would be a good fit.
3. If possible, I'd like to stay close to the east coast (NJ) as I have an ill mother. Would probably prefer to practice somewhere in the northeast (New York, PA, NJ, MD, Washington DC areas).
4. I want the school with the best track record/program in public interest.
5. I wouldn't mind a judicial clerkship after graduation.
6. I want to work hard and have a job soon after graduating.
At the moment I'm leaning heavily towards Notre Dame, as they seem to have a better public interest law program or Washington and Lee. But, is there something I'm missing about Penn State?
I do live in PA currently and have friends in the Harrisburg area, which is why I applied to PS int he first place.
As far as tuition/scholarship, Notre Dame and W&L both have offered me around a 1/2 ride. Penn State has offered me 15k.

When did you apply and go complete? I applied in the middle of Jan and just went complete on 3/16. Seems like I have been waiting forever. I am coming up on time for seat deposits at other schools but I would like to see what Penn state will offer me before I accept my other schools offers.chw123 wrote:In today via e-mail! 10k per year scholarship!I'm very excited for this opportunity; Penn State is definitely on my short list.

Re: Penn State c/o 2015
Carlisle is a small town in the very souther part of Pennsylvania. The other campus is in State College which is where the undergrad university for Penn State is. I guess it really depends on what type of environment you are looking for. I think Carlisle would be more rural that State College but both areas are pretty rural compared to many larger cities. Will you be able to visit each campus before making a final decision? Have you asked Penn State if they will help pay for travel expenses for you to come view the campus? I am not sure how far away you are but it would probably be worth the trip to decide if you can do it. If I am accepted I think I will likely go the the Carlisle campus just because it is within driving distance of my house and I would not have to move. If I was a young student and was going to live on campus I would likely pick the State College campus because of the fact that it is much bigger and the main campus for Penn State.ahenson7 wrote:Accepted today with $10,000 a year!!

Got my welcome packet last night with 12,500/yr with 3.0 yearly stip...
Anybody know the grading curve? Is 3.0 a high expectation? I have seen most stips around the 2.33 or 2.5 range.

We operate on a B curve at PSU, so a 3.0 is around median.USMCMatt wrote:Got my welcome packet last night with 12,500/yr with 3.0 yearly stip...

I went complete 03/06. You should be hearing back next week at the latest I'd guess. I received the scholly with my e-mail of acceptance. If you don't hear from them pretty quick I'd call to check up. Their office is probably busy with the ASW about to happen.Mandi wrote:When did you apply and go complete? P.S. Got my scholarship raised to $12,500 per year by asking pretty please and citing what I'd be bringing to the university, the trouble of me relocating from OK with no contacts in the area...and it worked!

There might be some wiggle room with your scholarship and it never hurts to ask.USMCMatt wrote:Cool. Thanks.jbarl1 wrote:We operate on a B curve at PSU, so a 3.0 is around median.USMCMatt wrote:Got my welcome packet last night with 12,500/yr with 3.0 yearly stip...

I'll be there, coming up from MD hbu? Interested to see what Carlisle is like, the area seems real nice and low key.HabeusAwesomus wrote:Is anyone here going to accepted students weekend next week in Carlisle?

Will be there this weekend as well, and also from MD (eastern shore). Penn State will be a bit of a long shot for me though since even with my scholarship offer it is still twice as expensive as it would be for me to attend the University of Baltimore.nodice410 wrote:I'll be there, coming up from MD hbu? Hey everyone, long-time lurker, first-time poster!
Anyway, I'm getting into Carlisle tomorrow afternoon/evening for the open house on Saturday...if anyone would be down to grab a bite to eat or check out what Carlisle has to offer, let me know! I don't know anyone there and obviously it's more fun exploring with other people!
