There are two classes - one that you meet in every day, and go over contracts, legal briefs, and outlining. Then our class joins the other SLI session and meets in the lecture hall for about 1.5 hours. There we discuss the case briefs, or start new subjects like today by Dean Anderson, which was on criminal law - very awesome. Then we break for lunch and reconvene where we met in the morning, then finish the day off. Then homework, and yes, there's lots of it...it has basically killed every night since I've started and I still have no idea what I'm doing...But the knowledge the professors have is truly amazing and I'm thrilled to be attending CUNY Law.scrowell wrote:Lots of HW? Really? Ugh. Oh well, can't really say I didn't at least half expect it. At least we'll all have a week off before the real thing starts. Are there multiple classes each day, or is it basically just a 4 hour marathon in one class?LSATtom wrote:There's lots of homework! So far the biggest lesson I've learned is to be prepared! Even if you don't know the material 100%, the professors are looking to see that you're making a legitimate attempt - if you've done the reading they'll pry the right answer from you. You will probably be given a bunch of cases to read and then brief. Another big lesson I've learned so far is that you are expected to produce quality, serious, high level work just about every day. I have received but a glimpse of the workload that is expected of an individual...basically every night will be no joke.

Nah, just this week. I'm guessing they want to give people a chance to check out the 3rd world orientation thing that's next week.

Done with SLI...wow...I don't know if I would've survived the first semester without it. It was a massive help in figuring out what I need to do in order to prepare for the first year...

How's orientation going for everyone? We should have a CUNY Law forum reunion in the cafeteria either tomorrow or this week during lunch

Hey all, thanks for all the CUNY Law info.
I'm applying for Fall 2012 and had a few questions. Where do most students tend to live? Can law students get university housing? When exactly is this move to LIC, and where exactly are they moving into (i.e. new facilities, repurposed ones)? Thanks!

I am also applying for CUNY for fall 2012 and it's definitely one of my topic picks. I want to start a CUNY 2012 board, but am hesitant to do so, being that applications won't be out until November 1.

Re: Queens (CUNY) Law School Class of 2014
So I did a lot of digging around the CUNY website and it looks like the new facilities are going to be ready by this summer in LIC. The area's much easier in terms of subway travel. Anyone know anything more about the new building?
I'm curious about summer internships with city agencies and NGOs in NYC because I feel like that would be CUNY's strength. Any current students have experience with it?

Bump... I'd definitely be interested in hearing how current CUNY Law students are feeling about the school.
I know this is TLS so I doubt starting a new thread will do much....

Just glanced briefly through your posts and I take it you actually go to CUNY. Did you expect more than you're getting? I'd like to hear the story.overunderachiever wrote:Run away....run far far away...

Re: Queens (CUNY) Law School Class of 2014
Hehe...he's just fooling with you...
CUNY is by far an incredible experience. The caliber of the student body is very high, and the professors are as well. I don't know if there's another law school like it in New York. I couldn't imagine going to a law school anywhere else in the city.
CUNY is definitely a renegade school in a lot of respects...very liberal, pro-occupy wall street, and probably has the most diverse student bodies you'll see anywhere. The location kinda stinks, but I'm looking forward to the move come next year. CUNY is definitely a "going against the grain" type school, but it has the intellect to back it up.
The classes are tough, but they have a really good academic support staff. I don't know if I'd be doing as well as I am without it.
In any case, finals are in 6 weeks...back to hitting the books!

Thanks for the positive feedback. Just got my LSAT score, CUNY is still one of my top choices. So maybe I'll be seeing you there next year, time will tell.LSATtom wrote:Hehe...he's just fooling with you...

Cool...what are your other choices?
I think CUNY has one of the best, if not the only, academic support systems in the city. Every place else, from what I hear, is like a shark tank. CUNY (or CUNITY as we call it) is very much like a community, everyone helps each other out, we're all in this together...it rocks.

Well I go to a CUNY now, so I can imagine the environment. I can see it happening for me. The other schools I'm looking at are Cardozo and Brooklyn, but I am underqualified. (155/4.0)
