It's not a matter of compensation. I could pick up women without ever mentioning my future plans. but when you're going after the creme de la creme, you sometimes need to lay all the cards out on the table. Trust me, girls find it very impressive.

Ew. Ewewew. I feel sorry for the guy that tries this on me.

I must not be the creme de la creme.
come on guys. i can't be the only one here who engages in anonymous drunken sex on a weekly basis. of course i would never brag about my academic credentials if i was looking for something serious...but for casual hookups, it really expedites the process. it goes something like this:

me: "hey, will you do a shot with me. I just got in to HLS and I'm so excited!"
her: "for real? you're bullshitting me!"*
me: "no im not you can listen to this voicemail if you want to.."
her: "wow, that's soooo awesome. you must be soooo smart."
me: "meh. im not sure if im going to go there, though. i was thinking about going to med school instead."
her: "woow.."
me: "hey, it's kind of loud in here, want to go somewhere a little quieter so we can talk..... say...my place?"
her: "ok."

in bed in 15 minutes. :D

* alternatively:
her: what's Harvard law school?
me: that's where obama went.
her: oooh..wooow...

LOL.. not sure if he is trolling or not but I will say that he is absolutely correct in that, in my (accidental) experience, there is a large subset of girls that this works on. Not saying that it makes a previously repulsive guy suddenly desired by every girl in sight but it definitely can take you from "maybe" to "yes" or at least get you an attentive conversation where you couldn't get it before.

I'm not denying being admitted to Harvard Law would impress me- but managing to get it into a conversation unnaturally or offering to play the voicemail- ever- is a huge turn off.

All this is certainly true, I just like to post versions of that pic when there is the barest suspicion of trolling.

Why the hell would women be impressed by someone getting into law school? Is the prospect of being tied to a debt peon for 25 years really that attractive?

Well presumably you are intelligent by at least a few measures to be admitted to Harvard, and I'm into intelligence

i find that having the voicemail available is definitely a bonus. girls are used to hearing guys make up stupid bullshit to try to impress them. if you have easily accessible proof that takes less than a minute to pull out, that helps. if she believes me the first time, then im not going to play the voicemail that'd just be dumb. just if she asks for proof.

and i dont think mentioning that you're out to celebrate some good news you got about law school is any more unnatural than any other way you might have of initiating a conversation with a stranger at a bar

Shrug. I'm sticking with my opinion, but we girls aren't all the same- good luck! lol

Can anyone confirm/deny what I read in a thread from last year about JR2s only coming on Mondays? LSN kinda seems to corroborate this. If true, I could a) calm the fuck down and not think about HLS again until next Monday or b) worry myself sick for the next 5 days about why I wasn't one of those who got the JR2 the Monday right after the JR1. Thoughts?

Posting here and not in HLS 2011 Applicants because some of those people have a heart attack every time the thread bumps and it's not "real news."

I don't recall anyone this cycle getting a JR2 on a day other than Monday...or maybe there was an international person who got one on a different day, can't remember. But basically, I read enough through last year's thread after my JR1 to decide that Mondays are by far the most likely day to get a JR2. And then I freaked out when I didn't get one the Monday after my JR1...and got one the following Monday (yesterday)! So don't lose hope yet. But maybe don't be quite as obsessive about checking your phone the other six days of the week. And then if it comes on a different day, it'll be a great surprise!

Trying to think the stratagem through:

[After some initial conversation]

Girl: so what do you do?
Guy: I work at/attend [FIRM/SCHOOL name] but am leaving for law school next year
Girl: oh yeah? where at?
Guy: Oh, I'm not sure yet, I'm still waiting to hear back from places.
Friend/wingman: Dude, just go to HLS!
Girl: You got into HLS?

[This way you can name drop while appearing humble]

PS: While I think this is a distinctly douchy thing to do, I don't sympathize at all with clueless victims.

Lots of good tips here. Maybe you can just email a girl from your Harvard account.

JR1 3/11, JR2 3/14

Can someone please post the fb link to the 2014 group? There's a couple on fb....also, I asked this in the HLS 2014 thread but is anyone else considering deferring?
