Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
I submitted my 1st seat deposit a little while ago.
Has anyone else noticed that the “Estimated Financial Aid Budget Breakdown” on MySlice includes a $806 charge called “Educational Loan Fee Allowance”? I plan to look into this when I visit tomorrow because I would like to know what obligations accepting certain student financial aid would entail. (Especially since most loans are fairly small.)

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
So the “Educational Loan Fee Allowance” shown on the Estimated Cost of Attendance is total loan fees. When you take out a student loan, the US government charges a fee equal to a fraction of that student loan. Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans have a fee rate lower than Grad Plus Loans.
Also, apparently there is a cap on the amount of money you may receive in a year from Federal Direct Loans: $20,500. After that, the Financial Aid Office says apply for Grad Plus Loans and look for outside scholarship money.

Hey guys! I just got the packet in with a t-shirt. I Must say it's pretty legit, didn't get shirt + stickers from anyone else.
I was looking at the 44K sticker price, that sounds epic harsh. Do you get scholarship offer later or with this packet?
Is anyone else planning on going there for a visit anytime in the near future?

Anyone headed to Admitted Students Day this Friday? I'm flying in on Thursday and leaving Friday right afterwards. I hope I like it there, I've never lived anywhere but a large city so I'm not sure how well I'd adjust to Syracuse.

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
I'm flying from Boston and the ticket was pretty expensive for such a short flight, it costs about the same as my ticket back home to San Francisco. But the free night at a hotel thing is pretty sweet.
I figure checking out Syracuse is probably worth it, I got lucky with going to my undergrad and loving it without visiting; but I think law school might be different.

I just came back from admitted students day and loved it. Syracuse is my top choice now, but I'm still waiting to hear back from my number one choice. I was hesitant about it until my visit because I've only lived in big cities, but I think I'll survive. I loved that everyone was genuinely excited about being there.

Did you get a chance to speak to any 2L or 3Ls about job prospects? Also, did they mention anything about ranking?

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
From what I have been hearing from Syracuse grads, getting a job in Syracuse is extremely hard, getting one in NY is extremely hard for that matter, because Cuse grads are a dime a dozen. The more encouraging thing for me was that prospects further away actually are solid, because of the alumni network. Basically, there aren't too too many Syracuse grads spread across every big city in the US, but for the ones that have them, they will be loyal in the hiring process.

I see. Thanks for the insight. I was a little worried to see that only 47% entered the legal field.StillHerexxx wrote:From what I have been hearing from Syracuse grads, getting a job in Syracuse is extremely hard, getting one in NY is extremely hard for that matter, because Cuse grads are a dime a dozen. They had a panel of a 1L, 2L and 3L and the 3L already had a job lined up at a firm in Rochester. They didn't mention rankings. It was good to hear that all of the 1Ls had summer internships. I talked to another 3L who was president of the sba, and said his job offer wasn't concrete until he passed the bar but he did have one.

There are no dorms for graduate students this year, so set up some appointments to view apartments and send in apartment applications where required. Check out the off-campus housing information listed on SU Law's Admission and Financial Aid Housing web page, Orange Housing at http://www.orangehousing.com, and this PDF: --LinkRemoved--IHaveLawyers wrote:Also, what are you guys doing for housing?
