Re: Columbia Reserve 2010
Most Reserve movement came last year in early August. So you may be in for a long wait. Also, the two people I know who got in off Reserve were actually already in at higher ranked schools (if you go by US News), had both applied rather late at Columbia, and really wanted Columbia for personal reasons (primarily geography/significant others). So they were both very qualified candidates and the reasons they weren't admitted initially were never so obvious. Indeed, I think the schools they turned down last minute were a little surprised they lost out to Columbia. Maybe Columbia even took a little joy in hurting the yield of its competitors.
So in a nutshell:
Reserve can lead to acceptance
Doesn't happen much until early August
To have even a slight shot, you really need to be a very strong candidate already

Interesting. Can you define "very strong candidate"?HLS2000 wrote: So in a nutshell:

Well if you put the two together, it would follow that only students that are in at HYS will gain admission. Is this true?IAFG wrote:"already in at HYS"shanemahsa wrote:Interesting. Can you define "very strong candidate"?HLS2000 wrote:

Re: Columbia Reserve 2010
The two candidates I know personally had LSAT scores of 171 or above, GPAs of 3.85 (from ivy league schools) or above and follow-up recommendations from well known professors arguing why they should be admitted.
One of the two had been admitted to Harvard and Stanford. The other had been admitted to Stanford. Neither applied to Yale.
You may not need the above credentials to get off Reserve--but you should know that at least some of the people getting off Reserve are very striong candidates.
Again, this movement didn't happen until early August. So don't despair yet as long as you are allowed to stay on Reserve.

Re: Columbia Reserve 2010
There is indeed a joint HLS/HKS program. There are also concurrent degree programs with a handful of non-Harvard law schools, like CLS. My 3.6x isn't good enough for HLS so I was/am interested in the concurrent degree with CLS. Also I'm originally from NY and always had a soft spot for Columbia.lta wrote:IAFG wrote:why is the MPP program not jointed with harvard's own law school? how oddchutzpah wrote:'m going to Harvard's Kennedy School in the fall, but was interested in a joint JD/MPP with CLS.
It is... Is it also connected to CLS so that you get an MPP/JD in 4 years, chutzpah?

I don't think you necessarily need to be a cross-admit with HYS. But I can't think of anyone my girlfriend has met who was pulled off Reserve who wasn't at least in at a couple of top ten schools already and most seemed like they were already in at least one T-6 school.

Does anyone know of any *admittances* from the Reserve group so far? Or has it just been Second Reserve / Rejections?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
