For being only 20 people there are a lot of us on TLS

Re: GULC 2010 WL'ers
I just noticed something pretty interesting. It seems like the waitlists are all late Dec. to Jan. applicants. If you look through LSN it seems that all the acceptances were people who applied before mid december. Could it be possible that Georgetown has just accepted so many people already that they need to wait for people to withdraw?

Yea, I think there are more of us than that talking about it. I think they meant of that list, only 20 of the people have heard any final decision. Deos seem as if they are using it to weed out people who aren't serious though.

This is what I was thinking. Maybe it's an old email? A lot of people have been added in the last few days, it's conceivable there was only 20 before that...mrm2083 wrote:For being only 20 people there are a lot of us on TLS
I applied in November BTW. I doubt anyone's gotten in off the WL yet, at least nobody on LSN has.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully it wasn't sarcastic (hard to tell on these forums). I really hope you're right because NYU, Chicago, and Penn are dream schools for me. Columbia too but, that's is highly unlikely. I'd be happy with any of those, and I'd be happy if Georgetown would admit me so I have some options.scribelaw wrote:Probably credited. I have to say I'm pretty surprised. 3.77 GPA with a 171 LSAT... I don't want to play to my own ego by asking if it's a YP, but...
I was thinking, is it possible that some of the priority preferred waitlisters are people who GULC thinks expect scholarships, but who they don't have the money or desire to give them to, so they just waitlist them to prevent the person from declining enrollment when they get no $?

also it wasnt an old email, her response was sent on 2/17/2010.
i think many more "preferred preferred" waitlist offers were extended to people, but only "20" or so ppl actually remain on the list since alot of ppl chose to opt out.

Subject: Preferred Waiting List
Dear Mrs. Sims,
My name is *. I emailed you about a week and a half ago about
my concerns regarding the Georgetown preferred waiting list. My attitude
towards the wait list remains the same-- I am extremely interested in
remaining on the special selected group list within the preferred
waiting list. With that being said, is there anyway I can find out more
information about my situation? Can I find out how many people are in my
group and what probability I have of getting into Georgetown Law?
Finally, is it appropriate at this time to send additional material,
such as- supplemental essays & letters of recommendation?
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
*
Hi *,
I'm so sorry for the delay. With the snow storm, and us being closed
for over a week, things have gotten a little backlogged.
We have only made a handful of these decisions--around 20--and we try to
be very careful about this special group. However, the committee is
still making decisions, so I imagine that number will increase as we
approach the end of our cycle.
Dean Cornblatt indicated that he hopes to have some update by late March
via e-mail. You are definitely welcome to send any additional materials
although it's not necessary.
And, please, call me Sophia.
Warm regards,
Sophia

This should be good news for us in this special group right? I mean, only 20, and we should have the highest priority?

Waitlisted today. I'm hoping that I can somehow convince them to let me in for the PT program.

Could make sense... I applied 1/20, placed on Preferred WL 2/22... I know you all are my competition at this point, but good luck! I am sure we all will be fine, whether it be at GT or another quality law school.

Hey everyone, I'm apparently on the not so special preferred wait list. Those of you who sent LOCI's, did you send them snail mail or email?

Re: GULC 2010 WL'ers
Just got onto the 'preferred' waitlist--
is everyone sending LOCIs? Only I applied like last month so there isn't really anything new to add except...more begging. Or do you guys think this is really more like a "hold" at other schools.
Applied PT, 168/3.8.

Re: GULC 2010 WL'ers
When you think about it, a WL is a pretty good way to separate the people who really want to go to your school from the ones who don't really care. It also improves yield and protects against over-enrollment.
I think Georgetown and Cornell should be very worried about over-enrollment, given that they are the reach for so many economic refugees this year.

I emailed the woman whose name they gave me in the WL email. She's been very nice/helpful.robe1300 wrote:Hey everyone, I'm apparently on the not so special preferred wait list. Those of you who sent LOCI's, did you send them snail mail or email?

Re: GULC 2010 WL'ers
Hey just woke up to a regular waitlist e-mail which was actually a pleasant surprise considering I am so borderline. I applied to both PT and FT but is the regular waitlist really just a soft rejection considering the preferred waitlist group, or do I still have a fighting chance?

Re: GULC 2010 WL'ers
I got on the Preferred waitlist yesterday. Applied in mid November and my numbers are 175, 2.98 with 12 years of military and civilian work experience. If my theory that the schools will be dipping heavily into their waitlists this year due to slightly more applicants applying to many more schools is true then getting on the preferred waitlist is good news.

3.8, 163, applied PT. Regular WL here. To be honest, I'm surprised I made it this far, I was expecting a straight rejection. Good luck to everyone!

Special group preferred here. 3.9/168 Complete mid-December.
Are people sending LOCI's in this group? The initial email seemed to suggest that it was not necessary but I figure it cannot possible hurt one's chances.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I'm in the same group and the email was a little ambiguous. Do I need to email her and tell her I want to stay on the list, or is that assumed? (3.85/167 for anyone that cares)mstich wrote:Special group preferred here. 3.9/168 Complete mid-December.

Re: GULC 2010 WL'ers
I e-mailed them this:
"Dean Cornblatt and Admissions Committee,
First, I would like to thank you for placement on the Preferred Waiting List. I would like to affirm my strong interest in attending Georgetown Law. I have a few brief questions, if you would not mind answering them for me. To better ascertain my situation, can you please clarify the levels of the Waiting Lists? It is my understanding that there are three levels of Waiting Lists: Special Group on Preferred, Preferred, and Regular Waiting List. Is this correct? Two more questions, how many applications do you anticipate being on the Preferred Waiting List, and do you have an estimate of how many applicants may receive offers of admissions from this list, specifically? Thank you for your continued consideration and for your time in reviewing my questions. "
I will let you all know if I hear anything back. Just got into NYU today, so you may have one less on the Preferred WL to worry about.
Have to way out my options. Good luck all!
