I didn't apply to NYU but I have received most of my decisions over the phone. Some Deans don't mind calling overseas.

That's right....though I'm hoping that since my decision was sent in the first batch, its good news. Of course I cant be sure until I see that big purple envelope in the mail!parker09 wrote:I think I can answer this from what I've read in the NYU 2010 (or whatever it's called) thread: NYU doesn't call you, but if you're wondering about your status, you can call them and it seems like if you get a nice person, he/she'll tell you whether or not you have a decision (though he/she won't tell you what it is).bluedolphins wrote: So NYU makes international phone calls to inform admitted students?

Looks like Berkeley is sending out emails today, according to the Berkeley thread.Saya wrote:Neither.bluedolphins wrote:But neither Stanford or Berkeley has sent out any email yet, have they?Saya wrote:At least Stanford and Berkeley do email. I don't know if I could stand the snail mail wait if I knew a decision was already made.I'm hoping Berkeley's will come this month, but I don't think Stanford's will until the new year. Does Stanford send out acceptance/rejection letters after the email? I thought only Berkeley was 100% electronic correspondence.

Hah, well, given the email news from Berkeley and lack of email in my inbox... I'm starting to realize that the reason I'm not hearing from places may not JUST be because I'm overseas (as nice of an excuse as that was)... it's also highly likely I'm just plain not getting in. Hah!

Re: International/Currently Abroad "IWantMyDecision!" Thread
My cycle so far:
--Virginia e-mailed me my rejection
--Alabama called my parents and then e-mailed me. Acceptance packet went to my parents.
--Georgia via status checker. Letter came in the mail to me.
--Iowa e-mailed my acceptance. They sent the acceptance letter FedEx. I think it was special because I had to confirm my address with someone outside the admissions office at the university.
That's all I know so far. I have a letter pending from W&L, and I assume its coming to my address abroad because its been a week and my parents haven't received it (and everyone else in the world seems to have).
Overall I'm not worried. I'm going back to the US for two months in February. As long as I have decisions by then I will be happy. I put my end date at 12/31/09 for my current address.
Also, I think it'd be cool for people to post where they are. Some people have but I think we all should.
I'm in Taiwan. I'll be traveling in the spring in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Anyone want to grab a beer?

Internet in my apartment went out
After the teachers' lounge closes at night/on the weekends, the only place I can go in my town for wifi is the McDonalds. Ugh. So so so hoping to get an envelope from Gtown tomorrow.

BU, RD
Complete 10/16
Accepted via email on 12/10 (since I was abroad-- they usually make phone call)
Admit packet and letter apparently in the mail (they didn't specify what kind of mail it was being sent)
Email text included: "Today we called admitted students to inform them of the Admissions Committee’s decision. Since you are currently in [African country], we couldn’t wait to tell you this good news and decided to share it with you via this informal email. Your official admission letter and packet are on the way to your address in [Africa]. If you do not receive this package, then please contact me at gitelson@bu.edu and I will send a new one."

W&L sent me a letter on 12/4. I received it in Taiwan 12/14. Regular Airmail from the US. At least it was an acceptance!

Re: International/Currently Abroad "IWantMyDecision!" Thread
So far I got in at:
Georgetown 12/9, regular decision, went to my parents' house
Wash & Lee 12/8, regular decision, went to my parents' house
William & Mary 11/27, same as above, also saw it status checker
Fordham 11/25, regular decision, by e-mail
Since my address abroad changes on a monthly basis, I figured the safest way was to have things mailed back home. (I do miss the thrill of opening my own big envelopes, though...)
Waiting on the rest (like UVA, Duke, Cornell, GWU Ed) and obsessively checking status updates...

Can you tell me what your status checker says now? And when did you go under committee review?

Anybody in Asia receive the NYU acceptance packet as yet? They told me it was mailed out around the 4th, but I still haven't received it.

Waitlisted at UVA and Penn yesterday via email and status checker... but I think they do that for all WLs/rejections (the email part), not just non-US-addresses.

In at Chicago ED!
Because online law apps rarely have enough space for international phone numbers, I sent the same generic email to every school I applied to, saying 'this is my french phone number, good till such and such a date, if you want a us contact, call my father at this number...' Chicago actually took me up on it, so they called him and he emailed me. Getting drunk on excellent French wine to celebrate is so much cheaper when actually in France

That's so awesome! Congrats!
And good plan on the heads-up to law schools... Good thing my bad news = email standard for everyone.
I don't get why schools don't call international. I mean, it can't cost THAT much, and requires dialing just a few extra digits...

Re: International/Currently Abroad "IWantMyDecision!" Thread
Thanks! I would imagine that international applicants getting into schools that make calls represents such a small number every year, it would only take a few bad experiences for a school to get turned off from doing so. Time differences, bad call quality, getting voicemail instructions in scary foreign languages... Even I try to avoid making international calls unless I'm sure of what's going to happenparker09 wrote:ontologyfail wrote:In at Chicago ED!
