Re: Syracuse 2010
I didn't even submit my financial information yet. I'm assuming that the merit scholarship essays are just a formality, and that the scholarships are based on you being significantly above their medians in one or both categories. I'm sure if you write a stellar answer to their questions you can get some money, even without above average numbers.
For what it's worth, they did say they appreciated my "thoughtful answer to question 32b" in my scholarship letter.

Accepted via snail mail, no scholarship information. I indicated I would like to be considered for merit aid, but did not write the essay, it slipped my mind in the chaos that is the application process.

Re: Syracuse 2010
I got an email from Syracuse telling me to fill out the financial aid forms before even being accepted. Doesn't that seem a bit inefficient? They are potentially doing more work than they have to?

They probably won't consider it until they accept you. The sooner you get it in, the less work they have to do later on in the cycle.

Congrats to those already accepted!
I was just wondering how long it took for you to hear something once your application was complete??

Re: Syracuse 2010
Lol got a letter today inviting me to the admitted students day so I checked the front desk for packages and the acceptance package was there! No money though which sucks, I did the essays too. I'd love to go but it may be too pricey for me. They also have very early deadlines for financial aid, but I have most of that done.

Congrats on the good news! Well, kinda good...it sucks they didn't throw any money your way. Hopefully they make up for it with a meaningful amount of grant money. Your scenario is the conundrum I feel like I'll end up in, I love the school but it's a really expensive school with little to no financial help. As each day passes though, I'd probably be thrilled just get an answer some time soon.

+1 I like the school, and really really like the idea of the double degree with the Maxwell School. But I cant afford to pay that much. One school I'm applying to has a tuition that is literally 1/2 per year of Cuse..

Re: Syracuse 2010
I've been looking into that ***EDIT*** "government" program where the student does 10 years of public interest law and after that 10 years, the remainder of the loans are forgiven. Not too sure about the pros and cons of it. Could be hard, even doing 10 years of payments on 120k+ in loans could prove to be costly and I'm not sure how it works with private loans.
If I get into Syracuse, I'll probably make a trip to the financial aid office to see what my options are.

Re: Syracuse 2010
You're talking about the IBR, which is a government program... not a Syracuse program.

Re: Syracuse 2010
My mistake, I was being too vague. I'll edit "that program" to be "government program." I didn't intend for it to be taken as just a Syracuse program, but price is a popular topic when it comes to Syracuse so I thought I'd mention it. http://www.equaljusticeworks.org/resour ... orgiveness is also a good place to look.

Re: Syracuse 2010
Yeah IBR seems like a really good program. At this point I'd like to have a government job after law school so I find it really appealing. All that debt doesn't look as bad if it will be forgiven after ten years. I'm really interested in Syracuse's counter terrorism and law certificate but I don't know what types of jobs it actually places into, although it would be awesome to work for the Department of Homeland Security. I checked it off on my application as the program I'm interested in so I should receive something about it from a faculty member at some point.

Yeah I'd def say Syracuse is my number 1 at this point. I'm getting dinged everywhere so Syracuse is looking pretty good. And the more research I do about the school and how it places the more I like it.

Re: Syracuse 2010
Got my package today-- 33k a year with a 3.0.
Honestly I'd LOVE to go but for terrible reasons (a boy). Lots of thinking to do though, and the personalized acceptance letter+$$$+t-shirt+ sticker were very nice touches.

REJECTED UGH....3.98 AND 150 LSAT.....OBVIOUSLY THE LSAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN YOUR APPLICATION!!!!!

I also should mention that I am a "white" female with no URM, however I have a significant work resume as well as outstanding letters of recommendations. One from a president of a college, the Onondaga County Sheriff and the Seneca County DA. I am also an 'older' student....yet none of that mattered since I didn't score high enough on my LSAT!!!UGHHH

Wow that's crazy, you'd think a school like Syracuse would want your high gpa.

Re: Syracuse 2010
Obviously,,,,they are only a LSAT number driven school....it is funny how they say they use a formula to determine whether or not you have the right numbers, however I used their formula with others' numbers who have been accepted that have a lower gpa and higher lsat and you know what...mine is higher????? So obviously,,,,it is all about the LSAT!
