Re: Waitlist Oasis c/o 2019
After your initial seat deposits, what is the maximum number of schools you would then switch to if you got in off the waitlist? In other words, I have been waitlisted at my top three schools. If I don't hear back by the seat deposit deadline, I'll then pay the deposit somewhere else and hope I get in to one of those three off of the waitlist. But what if I hear from my 3rd choice, pay their deposit, and then hear from my number 1 choice later? I just hope I don't have to keep paying $500 all over the place.

Might as well check in. W/Led at my top choice. Made the visit recently (10 hour drive each way) and got a lot of encouragement from the ADCON that that was the best course of action. Best of luck to everyone else out there.

I reached out to my top choice where I'm WL and asked for a phone conversation with someone in admissions in lieu of a visit. There isn't any way I can get down there with my Navy schedule. They were receptive to it, and I'm hoping it shows genuine interest. Anyone else have similar experience to share?

I did this as well. It was pretty informative and actually gave me a lot of good information to use in my LOCI.Navyhornguy wrote:I reached out to my top choice where I'm WL and asked for a phone conversation with someone in admissions in lieu of a visit. I already sent my LOCI today. I hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot sending it before a phone discussion. I suppose it will give me good info for another LOCI in a couple months.Echoduck wrote:I did this as well. I don't believe there's a limit, the price is the seat deposit, which admittedly sucks, but that's the gameviolinguy27 wrote:After your initial seat deposits, what is the maximum number of schools you would then switch to if you got in off the waitlist? edit: the only time this wouldn't be true is if you get a scholarship that binds you to the school. But even then, there are ABA rules that they can't make you withdraw from the waitlist of another school - you always get the right to turn down their full scholarship within a couple days of getting into Yale

On the w/l at Fordham...i was told they won't be reviewing the w/l until at least may. I submitted a LOCI, and will be submitting additional LOR...hopefully those will help.

I asked for a phone call to someone on the admissions staff in lieu of a visit since I can't get down the school physically. It's scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. I'm trying to figure out how to approach the conversation to show them my genuine interest but also seem like I'm trying to learn more about the school. Is it inappropriate to ask questions about their waitlist statistics?

I wouldn't think that it is inappropriate at all.Navyhornguy wrote:I asked for a phone call to someone on the admissions staff in lieu of a visit since I can't get down the school physically. Is anyone else writing a letter with the message along the lines of "If accepted off the waitlist, I will deposit immediately and withdraw all other apps"?
Thoughts on doing that?

I've known a couple of people who have put that in an LOCI. I don't think it's a bad thing as long as you absolutely mean it. I was told by a trusted law friend that it is extremely poor form to put a statement like that in a LOCI and then not follow through.WhiteHouse wrote:Is anyone else writing a letter with the message along the lines of "If accepted off the waitlist, I will deposit immediately and withdraw all other apps"?

That being said, I basically put that sentence in my LOCI. I'm not sure you can show any more dedication to attending a school than to say that.

If you are not concerned about scholarships I would not see the harm in it as long as you are being genuine. However, if you get better scholarship offers elsewhere you may regret this decision as you will lose any bargaining tools you had before. So it depends how badly you want to go to the school you are waitlisted at (I think).Navyhornguy wrote:I've known a couple of people who have put that in an LOCI. How long should a LOCI typically be? Also, who should you send it to and is it better to send it sooner rather than in the spring?

Re: Waitlist Oasis c/o 2019
On the Priority Waitlist at Duke and regular waitlist at Gtown, although I was told I'd have a final decision from GTown by the end of Feb. I recently got into Michigan for summer start- would it be poor form to mention this in a LOCI? I feel like because I have less time now to make a decision (school would start in June rather than August at UM) I need to get moving with LOCI's.
I would really like to get into Duke and Gtown, and I have no doubt I'll be able to write a convincing "Why" in my letter, but I feel like the UM admission for summer might need to be mentioned. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help. Fortunately, I'm in a position where the scholarships aren't make-or-break. I think if I got off the waitlist at CCN, it would be worth it in the long run. The message is genuine too!

I'm in the same boat since I'll be using my GI Bill for school, so I'm not terribly worried about scholarships so much as just getting in at a great state school. I say if you are serious with your statement, go ahead and make it. A school is not going to penalize you for showing such a strong commitment to their program.WhiteHouse wrote:skimmilk wrote:If you are not concerned about scholarships I would not see the harm in it as long as you are being genuine. Re: Waitlist Oasis c/o 2019
Is anyone else extremely frustrated and sad over their waitlist situation? I had a not so great phone conversation with someone in admissions today at my waitlist school and I'm just feeling hopeless today. Just figured I'd vent a bit and see if anyone else out there in TLS land was feeling the same way.

Nothing major, it just didn't seem to be very effective. The guy I spoke to seemed confused and annoyed about me asking for a phone call. I was nervous and stumbling over my words because he wasn't reacting to any of my questions or statements, and there were a lot of awkward pauses. His answers were very blunt and somewhat cold. He even went so far as to discourage me from making a campus visit in a couple of months. "Face time is not going to make a difference." It just wasn't what I expected, and I almost feel like it hurt my situation.PatriotP74 wrote:Navyhornguy wrote:Is anyone else extremely frustrated and sad over their waitlist situation? Ah I'm sorry man, I'm sure it'll be fine. I couldn't see any way that a visit if possible and call could hurt a wait list or even just a current applicant. It shows you care and should be on file when it comes up for review again.

Re: Waitlist Oasis c/o 2019
I wouldn't let this get you down honestly. I had a similar experience (I was not waitlisted but was trying to get an interview at one of my top choices). I drove about 10 hrs to visit and met with the Dean. He was very short with me and basically gave me the "if we want to interview you, we will" answer. He even seemed to question why I made the trip. Three hours later I got my acceptance without even needing an interview. Moral to the story: don't assume things went poorly just because a busy admissions person seemed put off by you. It is very possible they are still impressed by your dedication. Also if you want to visit, do it. Make sure you fill out a form when you do because most schools provide visit slips to put in your file. If you physically visit you may even be able to meet with someone higher up the chain of command like I did. Don't be discouraged!Navyhornguy wrote:Nothing major, it just didn't seem to be very effective. The guy I spoke to seemed confused and annoyed about me asking for a phone call. Thanks guys. I'm feeling better about it today. I really appreciate the words of encouragement and input. TLS has basically become my support group for this crazy application process. My husband doesn't get it! Lol
