How much emphasis is placed on optional essays such as the why NDLS and the recently added Different Kind of Lawyer Essay.
Write the optional essay - it's pretty much required.
Wish I'd known this before I submitted. My numbers are not spectacular, but I thought most schools really didn't need or want the extra essays if you were at/above both medians. I guess I'll expect a WL.

Contact admissions and ask if you can submit the optional essay - I think they should let you add it to your application.

Do you know of anyone who has (or has anyone here) done this? I've seen people in other school's threads cautioned against it for the reason that it makes you seem disorganized. Of course, idk if that's how schools actually see it, or if that's just personal opinion. I would definitely do that if I knew for sure it wouldn't actually make things worse.

The application does specify that if you want to include either or both essays, "it must be included with your application at the time of submission." Maybe they're lenient with it?

Knowing the type of people that tend to work at Notre Dame, I'm sure they would want you to just add it to your application. Give them a call if you're not sure.

I think NDLS is more holistic than other schools when it comes to applications.

Checking in. Sent in my app 10/21/15. Status checker still has it marked incomplete - need to call them. :/ Somehow they got my recommendations but didn't get a transcript from LSAC.

Feel free to PM me if you have any question regarding NDLS or the application. I don't check this forum as often as I used to, but a PM would send me an email notification.

I haven't, and I was just looking on their website from something else and came across this:
"...the Admissions Office uses the Candidate Referral Service (CRS) to identity and grant merit-based fee waivers. To be eligible you must participate in CRS, indicate via LSAC that you intend to enroll for the upcoming academic year, have at least one LSAT score on file, and have your academic transcripts on file. Our CRS searches are updated on a monthly basis."
My transcripts just got uploaded two days ago, so hopefully they haven't already done their CRS search for November. I think I'll qualify for a merit based one.
I received a fee waiver and took the June LSAT. I believe that they also have a
free application if you apply directly through their website.
This is correct.

I called them - it seems to have just been a clerical error, they said it's complete.

In addition to the "different kind of lawyer" essay, is anyone submitting a dedicated Diversity statement? I have a really strong one that can apply to multiple schools and it incorporates themes that I would use in my DKoL essay but I'm wary of being long winded or going over the page limit.

The Different Kind of lawyer essay is a diversity statement. They merely changed the name for this cycle so that more people thought it was mandatory or strongly encouraged, even though it was more for the latter reason, and submitted one.

OP here. I'd like to add that I recently visited NDLS in person (I'll post more about that later) and the admissions officer that met with my group basically confirmed what Harry posted: they encourage everyone to submit a DKL essay, especially if NDLS is your top choice, and that if you have a general diversity statement that you are using for other schools to be sure to adjust it to specifically fit the DKL prompt.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the additional info everyone. Best of luck with apps!

Preatty sure you'll get it by mail. Or it'll be one of those obvious situations where the status checker gives you deposit numbers, and says decision mailed.
Last year I got a status checker update in Dec. Saying decision mailed, then I got my deposit $$$, then I got an email, prior to the letter arriving, saying I got in. Good luck u guyz
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
