Ahh! Just got my acceptance! For those of you who found out about scholarships, was it is in the acceptance email or sent later? If so, how much later?

Congrats! Did you get any scholarship info in your email? The attachment said scholarship offers came at the time of admission...so I guess if I didn't get any info I didn't get a scholarship?KarmenSanDiego wrote:In at UNC via e-mail!! Sent application 11/11.

Would any reverse splitter in-staters mind PMing me? I'm out of state (15K/yr) and was wondering how being in-state affected the offer (if at all).

Has anyone ever heard of getting a scholarship deferred if you decide to defer a year?

So what's the process for the Chancellor's Scholarship? I know every applicant is considered, but what time of year are award recipients notified? And are admissions decisions typically delayed until recipients are able to be notified about the scholarship at the same time?

In the past, finalists have been notified around the beginning of February, with a weekend program in Chapel Hill that includes an interview later in February. Decisions go out the week after the program.Arculease wrote:So what's the process for the Chancellor's Scholarship? Do you know if they send out the acceptances/regular scholarship to the Chancellor Scholars now and then in February let them know they are a finalist?BlackAndOrange84 wrote:In the past, finalists have been notified around the beginning of February, with a weekend program in Chapel Hill that includes an interview later in February. Re: UNC c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I don't know. In the past, all scholarship decisions were made around the beginning of March, but that no longer seems to be the case (based on what I've seen in this thread). If they're making scholarship offers now, then I don't see why they wouldn't do what you suggest. It could also be that they're changing how they handle the CS process.mjm1315 wrote:Do you know if they send out the acceptances/regular scholarship to the Chancellor Scholars now and then in February let them know they are a finalist?BlackAndOrange84 wrote:In the past, finalists have been notified around the beginning of February, with a weekend program in Chapel Hill that includes an interview later in February. Also, I realized I'd missed a question I could answer from the previous post. As far as I can tell, admissions decisions were not delayed in the past in order to to notify finalists.

Current 2L at UNC. In-stater and also went to UNC for undergrad. So I'm incredibly familiar with Chapel Hill and the Triangle region (b/c that's where I'm from). Just finishing up exams, so I'm willing to field any questions on here or by PM over the winter break. Congrats to those accepted, and best of luck to those waiting to hear!

edit: Also interested in your other options when applying, just to see what considerations you made to choose UNC (if you don't mind sharing with the class).

Yeah, it doesn't play a huge role in the day-to-day. People wear apparel from their UG all the time, even if it is Duke or State. Things of course go more smoothly when UNC football is 11-2 with wins over both schools thoughlymenheimer wrote:Is there any animosity towards Duke/NCSU UGs on campus, especially by the Double Tar-hipcatdaddio wrote:Current 2L at UNC. I assume, law being a professional school, that this would be a non-issue (aside from playful banter). Just wondering how it actually plays out in relationships within the school.

Edit (to answer your other question): I also considered/was accepted to Wake Forest, W&L, and W&M. But it came down to Wake and UNC b/c I wanted to stay in NC. Even though it would've been slightly less expensive for me to attend Wake, I chose UNC because of job placement in the Triangle and my happiness in Chapel Hill v. Winston-Salem. (I do enjoy W-S, my sister lives there, but I simply prefer CH).

Thanks for that! Pretty much how I expected it to roll. Don't wanna bombard you with questions but I know you'll probably get some about OCI/job prospects too. So If you want to jump out ahead of everyone and mention your job prospects/OCI success/happiness with your potential outcomes/class rank (range)/social security number/mother's maiden name. Re: UNC c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
OCIs at UNC utilize the pre-select system. This means that pretty much only the top 10%-20% of the class will be selected for interviews. Of course, if you're outside that rank, then you're looking at other means of finding a job. From what I've seen/experienced, those selected for OCIs have a pretty high rate of gaining employment through that process. However, since the vast majority of each class isn't selected for OCIs, I've seen many students have great success through mailing, job fairs, job bank postings, etc. I feel like the outcomes pretty much line up with UNC's profile on ATL. If you're in the top, you'll be looking at bigger firms, maybe big-time clerkships (federal appellate circuits). Below that, but still above median is looking at smaller firms, but can land bigger firms in some locations (like SC).lymenheimer wrote:Thanks for that! Pretty much how I expected it to roll. There is also a large portion of the UNC class that strives for public interest. I'm not overly familiar with how to land these jobs or what they're looking for in applicants, so I'm not going to speak to that. But that does account for a significant portion of UNC employment, particularly over the summer.
On the whole, I'm pretty pleased with the outlook, but I think it's important to know what you're getting into before-hand. The ATL profile on UNC is pretty accurate. Basically, don't expect a bigger firm in Charlotte/Raleigh if you're not top 20% at least.
edit: I kept saying ATL, I meant LST.

Thanks for your responses. They're very enlightening and I'm sure it'll help some people make decisions this cycle. I don't think there have been many UNC students/alums offering advice/to answer questions compared to some of the other T1 schools (that each have multiple students chiming in).hipcatdaddio wrote:

There have been a few threads around on the forums on the more general topic of getting a big firm (national or NC/SE firms) in NC. They're not from the point of view of UNC students, but I think they'd be helpful for anyone considering going to UNC or who wants to practice in NC. Here are just a few that I've seen:lymenheimer wrote:Thanks for your responses. They're very enlightening and I'm sure it'll help some people make decisions this cycle.
