I have utterly failed at trying not to get too excited. I have already started celebrating with some moscato and Ben & Jerry's.

Are there any recent applicants here who could check and see if they have the boxes as well? If they haven't appeared for everyone, I would feel more confident about attaching meaning to them.

Re: William & Mary c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
Just got off the phone with admissions. It was an odd conversation. I told her that the requirements list had changed and her first question was if I had received an email yet. But she said the change in requirements list is most likely due to my application being complete. Then she mentioned that most decisions won't go out until the spring. She said the person that usually handles these questions was out of the office at lunch and that I could leave a voicemail but she recommended waiting a few days to see if I get an email. A lot of mixed messages I feel. But take it as you will.

Yeah, that's weird. So was she trying to say that everyone sees the boxes as soon as their application goes complete, and it has nothing to do with being accepted? If so, and it has nothing to do with a decision, why did she ask if you received an email?lawandorder2019 wrote:Just got off the phone with admissions. It was an odd conversation. I looked at last year's thread, and while most people got an email the next day, the thread didn't even start until October. Since it's still Sept. maybe they're just lining up some of us for an October decision and didn't count on a whole forum of applicants tracking their every move, lol!

It only made sense after looking at last year's thread. I wonder if someone screwed up and added them to admitted students' status checkers prematurely, or if they were mistakenly added for everyone?lawandorder2019 wrote:Ugh I hate this waiting. I do apologize for getting everyone's hopes up

It may not be too much longer. I checked LSN for admit dates for the last five years. 2/5 came the first week of Oct, 1/5 2nd week of Oct, 1/3 3rd week and one year was the first week of November. Those are all self reported so some of the later ones may not reflect when the first admit date actually happened.
Also one of those years when the wait was longer, a TLSer called and was told that they were waiting to send acceptances because they hadn't received the info for the mailer packets yet.

Checking in. Anyone know/hear generally how generous W&M is with scholarship $$$, particularly to out of state students?

From a quick look at LSN, they appear pretty generous. It looks like if you're around median, that you'll be likely to receive in the neighborhood of $50-70k. If your LSAT is 167+, with a good GPA it looks like you're approaching full scholly territory. Of course, I always wonder how they arrive at these numbers - one candidate with both numbers at median may get $80k and another with the same stats get $10k. Probably a difference in when the app was submitted.woodchuck78 wrote:Checking in. Anyone know/hear generally how generous W&L is with scholarship $$$, particularly to out of state students?

Why am I just finding out about this website? I've been doing it all wrong.Scalvert wrote:From a quick look at LSN, they appear pretty generous. William and Mary has fellowships that they provide to many (probably most) out of state students, or at least they did a few years ago when I graduated.woodchuck78 wrote:Checking in. Anyone know/hear generally how generous W&M is with scholarship $$$, particularly to out of state students?
You get in state tuition, along with a small supplemental income (something like 4k a semester IIRC), for doing two things.
1. Keep your GPA in roughly the top 75% of the class. (I think you had to maintain a 3.0 or a 3.1 or something similar).
2. Have a part time job on campus. Research assistant to a prof, or work the circulation desk at the library, something like that. It gets assigned to you within the first week of classes. Almost all the jobs are really low effort, people tend to get paranoid that it'll take time away from studying but it rarely does.
I'd speculate that around 60% to 75% of out of staters get the fellowships. I'd be shocked if it was less than half. It was relatively rare to meet an out of stater who didn't have a fellowship.

Check out the graphs on LSN, also look under the applicants tab. http://wm.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1415JohnBum wrote:What's going on fellows.
W&M is my absolute dream school. Just took the Oct. LSAT and don't feel too hot about it though. Anyway, I plan to submit my apps by the end of October, latest mid-November. I got a decent GPA (3.8 ) but I'm worried about how they viewed splitters. Any ideas?

Checking in...hadn't thought much about W&M, but the fee waiver got me looking and learning, and needless to say, I'm interested now. Curious, how long did it take other folks after submission to get acknowledgement/status checker?

Two days between application submitted and application complete. Haven't heard anything else (besides the brief excitement over the boxes), but they generally start sending acceptances in October. You shouldn't have to wait too long to hear something.fliptrip wrote:Checking in...hadn't thought much about W&M, but the fee waiver got me looking and learning, and needless to say, I'm interested now.
