They also give personal statement advice on their website. I suggest following that as well -- they are a peculiar bunch at Berkeley, but it is a great school.slippin_jimmy wrote:Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty on the hype train, so it should be pretty fun to incorporate Berkeley into it.Ron Howard wrote:Yes, make sure you write a personal statement for Berkeley to their requested specification. This is a big must.urbanist11 wrote:I am going to put my why berkeley in my PS. Seemed like a lot of people who got dinged last year just threw their typical 2 pg PS to Berkeley, so I think they appreciate the extra effort. I also like the length and content of my PS as is right now, so I think I will look for a way to naturally weave it in.

Don't worry about rankings.slippin_jimmy wrote:Agreed. I know some people are a bit up in arms about the medians/potential slip in rankings, but I still think Berkeley is still going to stay strong in terms of its PI placement and development, which is why I'm interested.urbanist11 wrote: Nice to have some other applicants who are actually excited about Berkeley! Looking forward to this thread!

Re: Berkeley C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
As far as being explicit about Why Berkeley in the PS goes, the ex-dean says "discuss why you want to attend that school, be part of a particular program, or study with a certain professor. While this requires extra work, it is worth it if you really want to get into a particular law school." OTOH they caution against inserting "uninformed attempts to ingratiate oneself through exaggerated claims of one’s interest in Boalt."Ron Howard wrote:Yes, make sure you write a personal statement for Berkeley to their requested specification.
