Nope. Hope I'll get that info soon (unless there's no $ coming to me).LawsRUs wrote:pamphleteer wrote:In via snail mail yesterday. PM for numbers.

Got my acceptance email yesterday, still waiting on scholarship info. Went complete on 12/30. PM for stats.
Congrats to everyone that got in! Who that's been admitted thinks they'll be matriculating? I live about 20 miles from Irvine and plan to attend, so I'd be very interested in meeting any future classmates!

Looks like they're aiming for a 164 median? Congrats on the acceptances everyone. It would be a wonderful surprise if we see higher numbers. I'm seriously considering attending, but would like to see USNWR rankings (just to see the trending perception of UCI) and maybe a little bit more $ to push me into the for sure. It would probably be a decision I make during admitted students weekend.

thanks so much for the answer! would you say a car is recommended?Kayak1277 wrote:Irvine is very quiet - but, it's also pretty centrally located to some established night life/activities (Corona del Mar, Newport Peninsula), and newer hipster areas of Costa Mesa (the CAMP) and downtown Santa Ana. All of these require a car, but that's life in the OC.rion91 wrote:I pmed this to another user but I'd like to hear everyone's opinion:Kayak1277 wrote:I live and work in the area and would be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the campus or the area to the best of my ability!rion91 wrote:Anyone here visited campus?
what's life like around campus, things to do (bars & attractions), gym access, what are nearby grocery stores, & transportation (particularly viability of living between irvine and LA).
In terms of the immediate area - there is an Albertson's and Trader Joes within walking distance, along with some nice casual places to grab something to eat. The pub on campus has one of the better beer selections in the area (they usually get Pliney) and decent pub grub.
I definitely wouldn't live in LA and commute to Irvine. You're looking at at least 45 minutes each way, and that is on a Sunday morning with no traffic. With rush hour traffic on the 405, you're looking at more like 1hr 15-2hr depending on how hellish the traffic is.
The gym on campus is really nice. I haven't frequented it, but I hear it's pretty swell.
Hope that helps!

I know I was not in the original conversation but a car is not only recommended it is almost required in the OC.

@rion I grew up and live in Irvine and work in LA, and I would never ever recommend it to anyone...I commute 3+ hours every day and it is extremely draining. And yes, you really do need a car to get around at all in the Irvine area. There's nothing to do in Irvine itself, so you need to get to neighboring cities if you ever want to go to bars/etc and there is no public transport in Irvine. Not only that but even to get to the grocery store/mall/restaurants/anywhere, you need to drive. Feel free to PM for more info.

Does anyone know how international students fair in the admissions process at UC Irvine? I have heard that most American Schools, especially in the UC system are friendly to..."foreigners." Is this true of UC I as well?

The UC system is monetarily broke right now. I'm not sure about UC LSs but, right now, the UCs seem to be very happy to rake in international tuition $.Harry_Pluxen wrote:Does anyone know how international students fair in the admissions process at UC Irvine? They straight out mentioned this in the law tour, but I forget. I wanna say they are keeping it pretty small still, like 120. But that is a rough guess at a vague memory. Don't quote me on this, pleaseeee. Or this could have been the USC tour. Honestly, I don't remember. Useless...LawsRUs wrote:will consider uci at the right price. question: does anyone hv any insider scoop on how big they r aiming the class size for this applicatn cycle? is there anything in the admissns packet? rumors also will do

I think you can live in Long Beach, or south of there, and be okay. I know many people who live in Long Beach because one spouse commutes to LA, and one to Irvine.

Even from Long Beach you are looking at almost 30 minutes with no traffic. It is doable but I dont know if that is an area I would target unless there was ties to it like you mentioned.

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2018
I believe that the class size held steady at around 80-90 for the first three admitted classes. It then briefly went up to 126. Last year it went back down to 89. Seems quite sporadic to me. Anyone have an explanation for this? Are they admitting fewer students in order to maintain their GPA & LSAT numbers? Perhaps this will change once the school gets a US world ranking.

I did speak to an admissions officer a while back (before I was even admitted) and they stated one of their biggest long-term goals is to raise class size

Yeah, this. If you need to live elsewhere, it's feasible. But if you don't need to, don't do it!Grunt2Grad wrote:Even from Long Beach you are looking at almost 30 minutes with no traffic. It is doable but I dont know if that is an area I would target unless there was ties to it like you mentioned.
