It depends. If by "cold" you mean you never even looked at the material and got a 157 then yes either take a few months off and take it in February or, better yet, give yourself 6 months take it in June and apply early. To put things into perspective I got a 137 on my first cold diagnostic a 157 on the real thing after a year of studying (averaging between 162-163 on PTs)

I looked over a couple of LG strategies the night before, but that's it. That's the section that really did me in too. Only managed to score 9 of those..

If you're not trolling, you ought to consider studying for the LSAT. I wish I were able to have a diagnostic score of 157. My diagnostic was well below that and with a couple hours a week for 6 months, my score increased about 20 points.BB6139 wrote:I looked over a couple of LG strategies the night before, but that's it. With a 3.9 and a 167+ (definitely doable), you're looking at some T14s and/or full rides at schools like UF/FSU.

That's like the easiest section to improve on. Trust me withdraw your apps and take it again in juneBB6139 wrote:I looked over a couple of LG strategies the night before, but that's it. That's the section that really did me in too. Only managed to score 9 of those..

It would literally be a life changing mistake if you didn't take it again.BB6139 wrote:I looked over a couple of LG strategies the night before, but that's it. That's the section that really did me in too. Only managed to score 9 of those..

Ugh...you guys are killing me, but you're probably right. Definitely not trolling though. I've been super pissed at myself for not taking it during my summer off after undergrad.

Went complete 11/4.
No change in status.
Here are my frustrating reverse splitter stats:
3.91 UGPA
157 LSAT
That's what happens you work for biglaw 50+ hours a week and you take the LSAT cold..
+1 for the soul sucking Legal Assistant thing. Doing someone's job, but being paid 25% of their salary is definitely soul sucking.BB6139 wrote:You think it's worth it to try to retake in December or February for this cycle? I seriously cannot sit out another year for law school. Being a legal assistant is sucking the life of me.
With that being said: RETAKE, RETAKE, RETAKE.
Seriously, even if you're able to manage to bring that to the low 160's (which with prepping you can) your options for schools opens up so much. Nothing against FSU, but why would you go to FSU when you could possibly land at a t14 or t20? Plus, if you're working big law and you have connections, you're going to need that t14 on your resume to land a position.

Re: FSU Law c/o 2018 Applicants
LawGirlatx I'm glad you understand the monotonous hell cycle that is being a legal assistant.
Trust me, I would love to go T-14 or T-20 granted that I wasn't going full sticker. I've got some not horrible, but not great student loans from a few semesters I spent at NYU for philosophy to consider.
Also, I'll comment that biglaw (in Florida) is not as discriminating as you might think. We have FSU, UF, UM and even (can you believe it) FL Coastal associates and Sr. Counsel in our offices. Granted, these people did fairly well in their classes, but still. They have the same job, pay, and prospects as the newly minted associate that graduated from Yale 3 years ago. That really blew my mind. Of course this isn't indicative of every large firm and of course regional schools are represented almost entirely in their own region, that's obvious. If you're waning to practice in FL, those schools make a lot of sense.

I can't give you that one outright. But, it started in Florida and is international today. Maybe that narrows it down.

Oh I understand! My current employer is extremely lax, but that hasn't always been the case. It's worth the time and investment to attend law school and make that mad money for doing what you essentially already do, except for once in a very blue moon actually taking a case all the way to trial. But I digress...BB6139 wrote:LawGirlatx I'm glad you understand the monotonous hell cycle that is being a legal assistant.

FL Coastal is shocking.... I've known one person that graduated from there and I'm pretty sure he's a waiter now. I'm not even joking.
Although it's probably not a bad idea to stick close to home, don't rule out one day moving to another state. I say at very least retake the LSAT. The worst thing that could happen is you score the same or maybe a little lower. Most schools don't care about the lower score if your higher score can at minimum maintain their 50th stats. It's at very least worth a try.
From poking around on TLS and LSN for the past few years it appears that law schools love degrees in Philosophy. That GPA from NYU is nothing to scoff at either. I've seen "reverse splitters" get into some great schools. You should do some poking around LSN when you have a chance and see which schools people with your numbers got into.

Re: FSU Law c/o 2018 Applicants
FL Coastal is an overpriced, desperate attempt at a law school. Seriously, most people who attend owe over $100,000 after graduation and end up applying for office services positions at law firms for the chance to get their foot in the door. Someone on their admissions committee has called me every day for a week inviting me to lunch, drinks, etc. and promising a full tuition scholarship....on a voicemail. I haven't even applied and besides, I have a 157. THAT is desperate recruiting.

By the way, thanks to everyone for the advice. Sorry for derailing this thread!
From what you all have seen from previous cycles, do you think my numbers will pull any kind of scholarship from FSU?

157 probably gets you in with no money.BB6139 wrote:By the way, thanks to everyone for the advice. Sorry for derailing this thread!

160+ probably gets you money. Obviously the higher the score the more money you get.

I'll be up front and tell you that I'm no expert when it comes to law school or job prospects, but I have spent countless hours scouring through the internet for the last year (govt employee). You should take the LSAT again.... My $.02 - find a job to pay the bills for the next 8 months, study your ass off and post a 168 on the June '15 LSAT - go to UVA or Vandy for half price and guarantee yourself a high paying job in FL.

Re: FSU Law c/o 2018 Applicants
Hey everybody!
I'm a Tallahassee native who is attending FSU for undergrad but I'm applying elsewhere for law schools. I will say, I absolutely love Tallahassee, the city is great fun, the sports are great, the bar scene is good, and the restaurants are very much improving. I know quite a few of the law professors and the admissions staff (I know the admissions staff well as they worked with me on my own applications). They are great people, and the law school is very much improving. I love Tallahassee, and there is also a ton of government and law opportunities, being the state capitol of a rather large state.
I just wanted to pop in and open the floor to any questions you may have about Tallahassee, you're welcome to PM me. If you get the opportunity to visit, I highly suggest you do it for the FSU vs UF football game, that is going to be a fun one. Best of luck to all of you, however!

Re: FSU Law c/o 2018 Applicants
I noticed this summer when I visited my mom that Tallahassee has "grown up" in the last few years. It seems to be evolving into a real city. Ten years ago I would've deterred anyone from moving there, but now it isn't the worst choice. Not to mention COL is actually affordable and tuition ain't half bad either. It's a good option for graduating with minimal debt.pmacob wrote:Hey everybody!

This is exciting! Seems like they're moving a tad faster than last year. I think I still have some waiting to do. Applied Saturday and went complete on Monday. It's nice to know that there's been movement, though!
