Wait, IU is already deciding on scholarships? It seems like they have barely admitted anyone yet!

Re: Indiana University C/O 2018 Applicants
I received my acceptance today along with a handwritten note, which was a nice touch. Awkwardly, the writer of the note referenced my preparation for Indy's winter by dealing with the frigid cold of Iceland. However, I've never been to Iceland and have absolutely zero desire to ever venture to Iceland. I'm not sure if they mixed my PS up with someone else or if I wasn't supposed to receive an acceptance (I should be accepted w/ my numbers though). So my question for TLS is.... has anyone here been to Iceland?

I've never been to Iceland, but I've been to Afghanistan and that was the worst winter of my life (I was in the desert too). I've been seriously considering writing off Minnesota because of the weather and may now have to rethink IU too.sprinky07 wrote:I received my acceptance today along with a handwritten note, which was a nice touch. That's so funny because the same thing happened to me from IU! I read the note and thought the dean either 1) didn't read my file or 2) thinks I'm someone else. Since the official acceptance letter had my name on it, I didn't give it a second thought.sprinky07 wrote:I received my acceptance today along with a handwritten note, which was a nice touch. I've been to Iceland!! I mentioned it in my PS. And I applied to IU around the beginning of November. When did you apply? Perhaps the dean did get our PS's mixed...

I have yet to receive a decision from IU... Haven't had an update to my status checker since 11/10. If we were both in the same pile on the dean's desk, maybe I'll hear soon!

I just got my acceptance letter when I got home from work. It had a personal note as well, but mine referenced my foreign language skills, military experience, and Golden Gloves. I think it's safe to say you may have gotten the wrong note.sprinky07 wrote:I received my acceptance today along with a handwritten note, which was a nice touch. Ha! I applied around the beginning of November too. I seriously doubt there were many applicants that traveled to Iceland and mentioned it in their PS.westcoast15 wrote:I've been to Iceland!! My name is mentioned everywhere else on the acceptance info; however, my name, nor is any other name, mentioned on the hand written note. Let me know if you receive a hand written note too. Maybe we can use this mix-up as scholarship leverage...

My name was in the hand-written note. First name only, but I have a fairly uncommon first name. Also, as I previously stated, he referenced Golden Gloves in my note. I didn't put anything in my personal statement about being a Golden Gloves champion, but I did put in my resume that I received the Sportsmanship Award at Golden Gloves twice. I really think they sent the wrong note to you. Use it to your advantage! Haha.sprinky07 wrote:Ha! I applied around the beginning of November too. Nice to see the hand-written note touch. That's new.

That's probably a good sign. You're asked to send a picture after being accepted.pcph wrote:So on the status checker, the requirements list now just says "Picture" and it's unchecked. Anyone know what that means? I'm still waiting for my decision to come in the mail!

For those accepted, about how long did it take after it was in review? Applied 12/22 and I know it'll be a little while, but curious as to the kinds of scholarships people are getting? LSAT 161, GPA 3.81. Fingers crossed accepted with $$ :)
