I graduated with my undergrad degree in December so I am seriously thinking about starting in May with the 1LS Program. Anyone have any good housing/apartment suggestions??

Late to the party, but OU does not have the cheapest COL if you want to be in the Midwest/South/GP area (although admissions likes to insist that they do). Sure, it's no NYC or DC--but make no mistake, living in Norman is expensive (living in OKC is cheaper, but a commute). Other law schools in the area have a little bit less, and in some cases way less, COL such as Baylor, KU, UNL, CU, etc.ilikebaseball wrote:checking in here. It'll more than likely be a very affordable option, and it has the cheapest COL of any law school in the nation. The thing that scares me is that I, under no condition, wanna work in oklahoma (although it may not be the worst option until any debt is paid)

If you believe living in Norman is expensive, you are doing something seriously wrong. Please feel free to post what exactly is expensive about Norman, and I offer to show you what you are doing wrong.here4ahusband wrote:Late to the party, but OU does not have the cheapest COL if you want to be in the Midwest/South/GP area (although admissions likes to insist that they do). I stand corrected, *relatively expensive.* Just based on a quick comparison of Standard 509 reports as well as personal experience. I just brought it up because admissions likes to brag about having the "cheapest COL" and use it against students trying to negotiate scholarship offers. You are C/O 2017 at OU, right? Here are just a couple of articles I think you should take a look at. These may help you better understand the cost of living in Norman, relative to other places:here4ahusband wrote:I stand corrected, *relatively expensive.* Just based on a quick comparison of Standard 509 reports as well as personal experience. The city of Norman, Oklahoma is literally listed in EVERY "cheapest American city to live in" poll. Like, not only is it cheap...its one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest in the country. In all of the polls you don't really see a lot of cities listed multiple times, but you'll have trouble finding one that doesn't list norman.

Where did you see this? I don't have that date listed on any of the information that has been sent to me.oldlady318 wrote:Seat deposits are due April 1st. The clock is ticking, and I still can't decide!1LPoke wrote:Have any of you been told when their seat deposit is due?

There is a facebook group for admitted students in the OU c/o 2018 and someone asked the question there, which was answered by admissions staff.Nashvillelaw21 wrote:Where did you see this? If you have been admitted, let the admissions staff know you want to be added to the group. Some helpful info is being circulated, and you get to see who your potential classmates are.

I'm in with some scholarship $$ too. I'm heavily considering coming to OU. Does anybody know when ASW is and also what are some of the nicer places to live if $$ wasn't an issue?

ASD is 4/10/15. I am not very familiar with Norman, but there are plenty of very nice places to choose from, especially if money is not an issue. Whether you're looking for a house or apartment, I have seen a lot of good options online.obiwan34 wrote:I'm in with some scholarship $$ too. I'm heavily considering coming to OU. I would also suggest browsing local realtor websites (e.g. DMG Realty, etc) for duplex and housing suggestions. The Cottages are nice, and there are several new apartment buildings going up all over the outskirts of campus, some of which may be available by the time you're here.
The admitted FB page will have roommate requests eventually, if it doesn't already.

Again, I'll recommend The Reserves at Stinson to anyone looking at cheap apartments. VERY close to campus and very nice. If I was committing, that would be the 1st place I'd look.

Re: University of Oklahoma c/o 2018 (2014-2015 cycle)
Not attending next year, but I am a current OU undergrad so just thought I'd put in my two cents for housing. Housing in Norman is easy to find, and pretty cheap (I'm from New England, so didn't take much to impress me). The Cottages are nice, but it's mostly undergrads living there and a really popular party spot, so just something to consider. There are a few new places going in that look really nice. The Vue is currently being built on Imhoff Road (not sure what the prices will be on that, but it looks really really nice), and is definitely walkable for the law school. Millenium Apartments are also being built on Lindsey and looks really nice, not sure if they are geared more toward undergrad or graduate students. Renting a house near campus is another good option, there's usually a bunch of really cute houses available, although those will go quicker (just stay away from the Greek area of Chautauqua/Elm/College if you don't want a lot of noise).
Even though I won't be attending next year, I'm happy to answer any questions about Norman/OU in general!

Re: University of Oklahoma c/o 2018 (2014-2015 cycle)
I sent a request to negotiate my scholarship and they replied asking for an interview. I'm hesitating wether it'll be worth it to make the trip to OU since I have another offer from a similar ranked school offering full tuition and at this point it would take full tuition scholarship from OU to make me go there. Has anyone had this experience and how much more did they offer?

I did negotiate with a favorable outcome, but a full ride from OU is a reach. I do not know your stats, but have seen one gal get $75k, this cycle and she had 166/4.0. If you can match or beat that you might have a chance. Good luck!!!
