Haha that would be helpful to future cycles for sure! I just meant we have no way of really knowing right now. Either way, how much longer can it possibly take to write two paragraphs re: "Why X Law School" - might as well do it for any kind of marginal benefit!everything_bagel wrote:Well...why not? I'll suggest xylo add a column if she has time in the other thread.blueberrycrumble wrote:It's really hard to say, other than anecdotally, given that most people won't report that they wrote a "Why X Law School" essay on LSN or our TLS spreadsheets. Anecdotally, people have reported writing the extra essay to help. If you browse some nice numbers on LSN, you can definitely see evidence of yield protection though, including at UVA.generalmead wrote:^Interesting. Any idea if past experience has shown that, if applicants don't write a why UVA essay/visit campus, strong numbers are not sufficient to merit an acceptance? Even if applied early in the cycle?

There is also data showing UVA's low acceptance rate relative to other schools that should be more selective (like NYU). You could check it out on Spivey's blog.generalmead wrote:^Interesting. There's a Why X column in the spreadsheet now, but the analytics for that might be beyond the scope of Google Spreadsheets. If anyone is a spreadsheet expert, please PM me!

Re: UVA c/o 2018 (2014-2015 applicants)
So I'm actually going to be visiting UVA in a few days, but they aren't offering anymore tours or anything for the summer. So is there anyway I can use a campus visit to my advantage in the YP game at this point? Or do I have to talk to an adcomm or observe a class or something?xylocarp wrote:that plus a why UVA will really help, but it's not necessarily a guarantee of courseKluge wrote:Is a campus visit sufficient to avoid being YP'ed if you are pretty far above both the GPA and LSAT 75th's?

I would call and see if you can get a meeting with an adcom. Offices are open in the summer, during the week at least.pulstar1 wrote:So I'm actually going to be visiting UVA in a few days, but they aren't offering anymore tours or anything for the summer. It really is a good looking campus. The buildings are grand, old-southern type structures and the campus is so green right now.Toby Ziegler wrote:Pulstar that's awesome, man! I hear the campus is gorgeous this time of year.

I recommend visiting but you don't need to in order to get the fee waiver. Just email admissions, ask for a waiver and they'll send you the code.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 (2014-2015 applicants)
just visited UVA! nothing too official, just walked around and did a self-guided tour. the law school and the grounds in general are lovely, and Charlottesville actually seems like a pretty nice place to live. I went during OCI, so a lot of people seemed really stressed out, but a few students approached me and were very friendly and helpful. overall it seems like a great place to spend 3 years.

Were you able to meet with someone from admissions?xylocarp wrote:just visited UVA! nothing too official, just walked around and did a self-guided tour. the law school and the grounds in general are lovely, and Charlottesville actually seems like a pretty nice place to live. Similar situation here,HomericVoice wrote:Count me in for the Class of 2018. I was offered deferred admission after being on the waitlist for the Class of 2017. Looking forward to meeting future classmates!
except, I deferred for two years after being accepted for the Class of 2016.
Good luck everyone

Is UVA notoriously a heavy YP school?
