Guys - I wrote a very detailed why Chicago with my app. I really can't say anymore. So what kind of LOCI should I send?

Sent a why chicago/loci... I'm unlikely to go even if, but I'd like to see what they will offer and if it's possible to get them to up CLS.

Re: Chicago Waitlist c/o 2017
Was anyone else waitlisted without an interview? Can we infer anything from it ?
My stats aren't off the charts, but well within uchi's wheelhouse. Because they wl'ed me ( rather than ding) without even bothering to interview, I suspect the wl had more to do with the fact that I live in NYC and they ( rightly ) assumed that i am leaning towards cls. Sent an loci to try to keep my options open. i would still consider uchi if accepted. Anyone in a similar position ?

A couple of people were eventually accepted last year. That said, their interviewing was more comprehensive and less disorganized this year, I believe, so I don't know how much you can go off from last year.

So how does this work? When they get to their waitlist, do they just send out admits or call first to make sure the person isn't already committed elsewhere?

You don't get off the waitlist until June. They would have to assume that you have committed to some school by then, since almost all commitment dates are in May.Seoulless wrote:So how does this work? Is June a hard timeline or just what happened in previous cycles?Theopliske8711 wrote:You don't get off the waitlist until June. I'm going based off of what happened last cycle.Cocoblues wrote:Is June a hard timeline or just what happened in previous cycles?Theopliske8711 wrote:You don't get off the waitlist until June. Re: Chicago Waitlist c/o 2017
I just called the admissions office and they told me they will likely start the first wave of admits from the waitlist as early as next week and continue until the first day of classes. Who knows if that's actually going to be the case... They also made it sound like the chances of getting in of wl are pretty slim.Theopliske8711 wrote:I'm going based off of what happened last cycle.Cocoblues wrote:Is June a hard timeline or just what happened in previous cycles?Theopliske8711 wrote:You don't get off the waitlist until June. The Chicago waitlist thread last year showed that some TLSers got in, is anyone feeling optimistic about this year? Why do you say they didn't sound too hopeful?

Re: Chicago Waitlist c/o 2017
There are really two kinds of waitlists: 1) purgatory (a more gentle rejection) or 2) actually holding you in case someone drops. As I see it, you should generally be able to get a sense as to whether you are one or the other by looking at stats and your acceptances elsewhere. That said, climbing out of a waitlist is pretty difficult generally.BA414 wrote:The Chicago waitlist thread last year showed that some TLSers got in, is anyone feeling optimistic about this year? The person I spoke with said Chicago will accept "a few" applicants if and when seats become available, refusing to concretely say anything specific. I may be reading too much into it but that was the impression I got.BA414 wrote:The Chicago waitlist thread last year showed that some TLSers got in, is anyone feeling optimistic about this year? Almost exactly the same except replace cls with nyu and I haven't sent a loci, yet. Still interested though.Chalupa-Batman wrote:Was anyone else waitlisted without an interview? Can we infer anything from it ?

Sorry for the late post, but I withdrew from Chicago with 90K two days ago. Hopefully this opens a spot for the waiters and even some money. Hardest decision ever made.

Re: Chicago Waitlist c/o 2017
If someone has no plans of attending Chicago, how does it screw other people over on the wait list? I saw this raised in a different school's thread but nobody could give a clear answer . if someone turns down a wait list admit, don't they just move on to the next person? So let's say there are 100 people on the wait list and 90 of those don't intend to go. Isn't the school forced to eventually turn to those remaining 10?

I think the key word there is eventually. Wait-lists can force you to make late game decisions/moves, etc as is. Even if a person who is on the list with no intention to go turns down the offer, the time spent analyzing their application, reaching out to them and informing them of their decision could have been spent on someone who actually wants to go and has now been delayed.Seoulless wrote:If someone has no plans of attending Chicago, how does it screw other people over on the wait list? Does anyone know if Chicago releases people from their waitlist, and if they do, when they have started doing that in the past?
Also, doesn't it seem like last years thread had way more posts by this point? Was there a lot more movement by this time last year?

Just saw this in latest and wanted to say hang in there, guys. I got my interview request almost a year ago today (May 10, 2013). Things can still happen!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
