Re: Michigan Law Waitlist Class of 2017
Hi all. I've been a lurker on TLS for a while, but haven't felt the need to make an account, but this wait list saga has been enough to get me on board. Michigan is my ideal school, and my top choice (in state, did my undergrad at umich, etc.) I'm wondering what others on the wait list are doing with regards to waiting it out. If I don't get in to Michigan off of the waitlist, I'll be attending BU in the Fall. I got some good money there in terms of scholarships. However, they require that I make a payment towards my actual tuition on July 15th. If that tuition payment is non-refundable (I'm not actually sure about that?) and in the thousands of dollars, I can't really afford to continue to wait for Michigan, and I was hoping to stay on that Waitlist until the last possible minute (read: Mid-August) before giving up hope. Anyone else in a similar situation, or maybe people from last year have an idea of how best to handle it?
Finally, I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section of the forums (I know people are picky about that, but like I said, I'm new here!)
Side note: Any movement? Especially the summer starters? I already live in Ann Arbor, so it would be easy for me to start ASAP, I'm hoping that's advantageous to me.
Go Blue!

in our 1L class, i know of at least 3 other people who got in off the waitlist in august, one girl 3 days before orientation. there a bunch that got in off the WL in may/june, not so many in july, or at least that i am aware of. i dont think they let too many people in off the WL for summer start last year (i was lurking this site hard same time a year ago); chances are they would have contacted you already as that is coming up quick - i sent them an LOCI that insinuated i would drop everything and do summer start if a spot opened up, but no dice; had to wait until august for my acceptance. i was also in-state and did (part) of my undergrad at umich.WolverineDream11 wrote:Hi all. Thank you! That's really helpful. Well, here's to hoping that I can get off of this wait list sometime this month or next.eomea5 wrote:in our 1L class, i know of at least 3 other people who got in off the waitlist in august, one girl 3 days before orientation. there a bunch that got in off the WL in may/june, not so many in july, or at least that i am aware of. i dont think they let too many people in off the WL for summer start last year (i was lurking this site hard same time a year ago); chances are they would have contacted you already as that is coming up quick - i sent them an LOCI that insinuated i would drop everything and do summer start if a spot opened up, but no dice; had to wait until august for my acceptance. i was also in-state and did (part) of my undergrad at umich.WolverineDream11 wrote:Hi all. I got off WL summer start last year but only b/c i told them I would be willing to defer for a year (at least i think that is the reason b/c w/in 20min of sending the email they called and offered me a spot). If that is an interest and you can take the break (if you're K-JD, i would recommend taking time off - 8 months won't kill you) see if they'll be interested. Plus it gives you time to take the LSAT again and see if you can get more scholarship - they won't rescind your offer for getting a lower LSAT, but you can get more if you get a higher LSAT.WolverineDream11 wrote:Hi all. If you're willing to do summer start I would definitely shoot the office an email and let them know as that's mainly what they're looking to fill at the moment

Re: Michigan Law Waitlist Class of 2017
I've already taken a year off, but wouldn't be opposed to another, and I've already emailed Joe Pollak in admissions and told him that I'd be willing to start in summer (<--sorry, I said defer the first time around). I met with him when I toured the law school. I'm concerned about deferring though, because I wouldn't consider myself the strongest applicant (I'm below both medians), but if it meant I could go to Michigan, I'd do it, no questions asked. If you deferred last year, are you starting in the next couple of weeks then? Congrats!UMich11 wrote:I got off WL summer start last year but only b/c i told them I would be willing to defer for a year (at least i think that is the reason b/c w/in 20min of sending the email they called and offered me a spot). Re: Michigan Law Waitlist Class of 2017
They just updated the website. Be prepared, it's a little heart breaking:flowers3456 wrote:has anyone heard anything yet from the WL?
"We have a small number of outstanding offers for the summer start (which begins the Tuesday after Memorial Day, May 27), and may make one or two more. But we are beginning to turn to an evaluation of our fall-start cohort. At the moment, it is full, and we have no immediate plans to make offers. We are, however, contacting people whom the LSAC has identified as holding deposits at Michigan and one or more other law schools, to ascertain the likelihood of enrollment here; that process may lead us to conclude that some offers for the fall will be appropriate.
Finally, we will soon be sending an email to everyone on the waitlist to assess their level of ongoing interest. We expect that will result in a narrowing of the waitlist pool, as some people will have made firm plans at another law school.
We will continue to update this page regularly with information about our plans and progress, and you should feel free to provide our office with any additional information you think would be useful. We very much appreciate your patience. As always, you are welcome to contact us with any questions by email to law.jd.admissions@umich.edu or by telephone at 734.764.0537."

Fall starter just withdrew with $$. Absolutely painful. Wish it could have worked but didn't for various reasons.
I will always have a fondness for Michigan. Hoping my spot goes to a TLSer

I sent in a deferral request yesterday. (Currently WL). Still haven't gotten even an acknowledgement of the request. This is the longest I've ever gone without some response from Mich. Part of me is starting to actually believe they are considering this.

Weird. I've always gotten an acknowledgement response w/in 12 hours. Roughly at one median. Below the other.

Me too. In other news, I requested a deferral because of an overseas opportunity I might have for 2014-2015 and it was denied. I'm not surprised, it was definitely a long shot for me.dancers1126 wrote:+1rigoding wrote:just got an e-mail asking about the extent of my interest
