Do you know what the time frame between deposits being due and movement on the waitlists last year were?

well, the deposit need only be postmarked april, 15th. So, I'm guessing they're waiting a while lest any deposits roll in late due to slow postal service. Fingers crossed!

WD yesterday after being accepted in January. I wasn't offered a scholarship, did not place a deposit, then received a substantial scholarship (18k/yr) three days after the deposit deadline with a reminder to place my deposit.

Overall, it seems a little disorganized over there. (As it likely is everywhere this time of year.) Good luck to everyone on the WL! I hope someone gets my spot.

do we know when deposits were required last year? I think I remember there being a deposit deadline of April 1st. If so, that would mean its a good 4 weeks after deposits when they start taking names off the wait list. Anyone have info on this?

I'm guessing the rest of you did too, but I just got a waitlist update email. They said they haven't accepted anyone off of the waitlist yet.. getting an email from them scared me!

Hahaha, it also scared me.

Interesting how little WL movement there seems to be so far this year. Although I guess GW seems to think it's just a matter of time for them.

I think I'll wait it out.

I don't know.. I got admitted to BC and BU in the same day last week and was preparing myself to not hear anything at all from anyone until June.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the email kind of asking us to reply with an LOCI of sorts?

No that's pretty much it. I think they're trying to whittle their list down so they can see where they are for next week maybe. The first update said middle of may.

Normally I would send an LOCI as a physical letter like I did with Fordham but since Fordham is my top choice I just sent an email response with a mini-LOCI. They did ask to give an idea of the extent of our interest. So .... Yup

I sent them a short paragraph about my continued interest and letting them know of my upcoming trip backpacking through Europe. I really just don't know how to sell myself. I pulled out all the stops in my application. I gave them my all in my app. Don't know that there's anything to say now other than "yes, I'm still very interested." I'm not going to say that my GPA rose .01 of a point with my final grades because I think that's petty.

Any advice?

I think you could have researched some programs at GW and probably mentioned some faculty members whose work you were interested in. That probably would have made it longer and palatable to the committee. LOCIs aren't supposed to be long, but I think they should be longer than a paragraph.

Just my 2cents. Take it how you will.

I guess I can type something out and send it via mail. The email just asked for a reply, I'll send a "real" LOCI in the mail.

Yeah I think this is a good solution, but I'd send it quick. It seems they want to start reviewing the wait list pretty soon. I essentially wrote an LOCI in my email response but wasn't sure I was going to write an LOCI in the first place otherwise I would have sent something longer and more researched in the mail.

General consensus that the email was sent to everyone? A bit curious about the "reply" to this email versus other waitlist emails that state to only contact them if you have made plans elsewhere.

I think that basically their thinking is this, "We have 300 people on this waitlist, some of them really want to go here and absolutely will, some are really waiting for other schools but sticking around on our waitlist just in case and some are just lazy and plan on going elsewhere but haven't taken the time to let us know. If we ask for a reply indicating the extent of interest we can group these people on the list and give priority to people who really want to come here and then go from there."

Having a rough idea of who they can make calls to and get a "Yes" from is pretty useful for them rather than just guessing until they find one. I suspect if you don't reply at all or don't tell them much in your reply they will assume you're interest is less than folks that replied indicating a stronger interest.

It also saves them the time of evaluating such a huge pool of applications every time spots come open. "Oh 10 people withdrew we need to look at our waitlist? Well only bring me those files that replied with strong interest to this last email."

GW is in a tough spot they have Gtown in their backyard, UVA 2 hours away, W&M 4 hours away and the rest of the law schools in DC. They're sorta stuck in the middle there, I suspect they have to do a bit more work making their yield is where it needs to be.

well, their waitlist is not ranked. So, I doubt they're making a tiered system like that. I'm betting they just wanted to know who they could take off the waitlist and who they should keep. If you don't reply to the email or send a LOCI they probably just discard your application.

I guess that GW law gonna pull out someone from the waitlist from the next Monday, after receiving the reply during this week.

Just my guessing.

Received this email in mail a couple minutes ago regarding that waitlist email earlier this week:

----------------------------

Dear [Me],

Thank you for responding. Your declaration of continued interest has been noted. We appreciate your patience, and feel free to contact us should you have any additional questions or concerns.

Very best,
Leean Thomas

------------------------------

this is my last waitlist (so far i've been accepted to 3/4 of them) - think there will be movement soon then?

What schools' waitlist have you gotten off of so far? Thanks.
