It's a solid reputation to be honest. A lot of people respect the lawyers coming out of it with regards to local reputation. I have 2 friends at the school currently. Feel free to message me with questions. I'm a bay area native and still live here. Also if you need housing let me know too. I'm renting rooms out of my place to undergrad and grad students. 3 rooms total. Hoping to have another law student at the house.wg1024 wrote:just checking in from nyc, I was admitted to the law school about a month ago with 23k. If I had to rank USF with the other schools in the bay area (not USnews rankings but social ranking):
1)Stanford
2) Berkeley
3) Hastings
4) USF
5) Golden Gate
...and Davis isn't in the bay area but you can include them above USF and Golden Gate. There is a lot of competition in a small city.
I have friends that went to USF. One works as a city attorney and another as a Public Defender. They enjoyed their experience at USF.

I would place Santa Clara as 5) and then Golden Gate as 6)calmenda wrote:If I had to rank USF with the other schools in the bay area (not USnews rankings but social ranking):

Although to be honest, I think outside of the industry, the rankings would look more like
1)Berkeley
2)Hastings
3)Stanford --> from my experience not a lot of people in general population realize Stanford has a law school.
and then the rest is a toss up.
People definitely know more of Berkeley and Hastings and then somehow manage to blur the two often times too lol

Haha Cal Trask is right. I'm a dude. I used the alias because it would be vague gender wise. Thought I'd mess with people's perceptionswg1024 wrote:Moonlight, are the roommates and your self open to a male roommate? I know some people want all girls or guys. And yea we're all guys at the house. We haven't had a female roommate. We're open to considering female housemates but for the most part we've found all guys to be easier to get along. If you want prices and details let me know and we can talk more in depth
And yea definitely think about the risks and such. But the bay area is totally the place to be.

For what it's worth, if you're going for gender ambiguity, you probably shouldn't list your gender in your profile.Moonlight wrote:

Haha, the username threw me off. Yea I like the Bay Area and California in general, just the loans combined with usf reputation, but usf from my research seems to hold its own in the Bay Area. Ill pm you later moonlight I should be going to admitted students day on march 29th, will you be there as well?

And yea sounds good man. I will be at the Admitted Students Day on March 29th too. USF holds its own in the Bay Area. The focus on TLS seems to be Big Law so in that regard USF is weaker than Stanford, Berkeley, Hastings regionally speaking. But in general, it holds its own very well. Apparently the DA takes a lot of USF grads and pays well too.wg1024 wrote:Haha, the username threw me off. Eh, I'm pretty much at the same point I was a month ago. Good options, with an extra option thrown in the last few weeks. I have a vague sense of how things are shaking out, but there's still uncertainty in the equation.

True true, you decided on coming out to Hastings or SCU's admit day in March?Cal Trask wrote:Eh, I'm pretty much at the same point I was a month ago. SCU, since they provide a stipend and I'm poor. Frankly though, after the proposed changes to PSLF yesterday I'm freaked out about law school in general.Moonlight wrote:True true, you decided on coming out to Hastings or SCU's admit day in March?Cal Trask wrote:Eh, I'm pretty much at the same point I was a month ago. What's PSLF? What are the proposed changes? Did they up your scholly offer?Cal Trask wrote:SCU, since they provide a stipend and I'm poor. Public service loan forgiveness, where you work for 10 years in a PI position and have the remainder of your student debt forgiven. There's discussion of capping the forgiveness around $60k. If implemented in its currently incredibly vague form, it completely screws anyone who's banking on those programs to be able to work in public interest after law school.Moonlight wrote:What's PSLF? Did SCU up your scholly? I forget if you negotiated with them.
Oh wow that's not cool for the PSLF.

Haven't negotiated. With the current amount, any changes seem unlikely. I'm probably going to broach negotiations with SF here soon though, the 3.2 stip makes me uncomfortable.Moonlight wrote:Did SCU up your scholly? I forget if you negotiated with them.

How much did you get from SCU again? And how are you going to get USF to drop the stip completely?Cal Trask wrote:Haven't negotiated. With the current amount, any changes seem unlikely. Hi everyone, new to TLS but figured I'd check it out. I applied to Univ of San Fran in February and as of the 3/8 my file status still says "application complete". The strange thing is, under demographic information, they assigned me an email address with the usfca email. Has anyone else had this happen or should I take it as a good sign?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
