I already checked in but I also UG (k-jd) at U of M so I can answer questions about the campus for sure, I even do most of my work in the law library (not uncommon at all for undergrads) and pretend im already in.

Same here (though, as of late I've tried to avoid the law quad, to avoid picturing myself there - more than I already do - in case I don't get in.)

I don't know if you guys interact with the law students enough to know this, but does the school have a midwest feel (if that means anything to you)?livefromannarbor wrote:+1thenewguy wrote:I already checked in but I also UG (k-jd) at U of M so I can answer questions about the campus for sure, I even do most of my work in the law library (not uncommon at all for undergrads) and pretend im already in.

I have lived in or around Ann Arbor my entire life, so I don't really know what you mean by "a Midwest feel." If you could describe what that means to you, I might be able to help. The law students - based on my experience - come from all over (as opposed to UG, where a lot of us are in-state). I don't know if that's what you're getting at, though.Sourrudedude wrote: I don't know if you guys interact with the law students enough to know this, but does the school have a midwest feel (if that means anything to you)?

Perhaps I can weight in since I come from the East Coast. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by Midwest feel, but the skies are certainly never sunny in the winter and it gets awfully cold and windy. When I think of a midwest feel I generally think of overall nicer people than the East Coast, and Ann Arbor certainly has no shortage of nice people. The town itself is kind of a unique, progessive place that makes me feel like I am living in a safe, smart community. There is so much going on in Ann Arbor at all times. Was this along the lines of what you were looking for?livefromannarbor wrote:I have lived in or around Ann Arbor my entire life, so I don't really know what you mean by "a Midwest feel." As someone on the East Coast, this sounds very nice. However, my biggest concern about going to law school in the Midwest is walking speed. I've heard people in the Midwest walk much slower than in NY. Is this true at Michigan?thenewguy wrote:Perhaps I can weight in since I come from the East Coast. Maybe it's the fact i'm 6'4" but i'm told i walk to fast. Raised in the Midwest and UMich UG. If you're short then yes, you walk slow.SteelPenguin wrote:As someone on the East Coast, this sounds very nice. However, my biggest concern about going to law school in the Midwest is walking speed. I guess if I get in, my walks around ASW may make or break my decision to attend.UMich11 wrote:Maybe it's the fact i'm 6'4" but i'm told i walk to fast. Raised in the Midwest and UMich UG. Eh. I'm barely 5' 1" and walk pretty quickly. As long as you're prepared to weave in and out of traffic because some people walk slowly and some don't, you'll be fine. You should really worry about getting hit by a bike, not people walking too slowly. Reckless cyclists, I tell you. *grumble*
The motto I've always heard in Ann Arbor is that pedestrians hate motorists, motorists hate pedestrians, and everyone hates bicyclists. Definitely seems to be true.

The bicyclists are definitely the worst. I'm assuming the walking comment is not serious. On an entirely unrelated note, one good thing about the midwest is the tendency for restraunts to offer sandwhiches with a fried egg on them. I love that shit.livefromannarbor wrote:UMich11 wrote:Maybe it's the fact i'm 6'4" but i'm told i walk to fast. Raised in the Midwest and UMich UG. If you're driving in AA just realize that people don't stop for cars, we often don't look both ways before crossing, and if you have a green light that still means a pedestrian will cross anyway.thenewguy wrote:The bicyclists are definitely the worst. Yeah, please don't take much of what I say in these threads too seriously.thenewguy wrote:The bicyclists are definitely the worst. I'm assuming the walking comment is not serious. That scatterplot of GPA's and LSAT's looks a lot more forgiving than it did a few years ago.
A year ago, I was about a 30 minute drive from Ann Arbor working on a job related project. I should have visited. The only reason I didn't go was because I was really, really sick.
I have always been very fond of this school. Hopefully, they begin reversing their recent downward slide.
