Mail came at 5pm yesterday- I was accepted and am being considered for Merit Scholarships. Just as previous posters said, it came in a regular small envelope with simply three sheets of paper. Short & Sweet.

My acceptance letter says "early March," but I've heard that if you have big names in your family who are involved in SC law, you might have already gotten your scholarship offer way early... I think there's someone on this thread who mentioned that already happened for them, and then I have a friend with those circumstances who has already gotten an offer too... but it doesn't look like very many people have gotten offers yet, and there aren't any who have put their offers on LSN yet... I'm just planning to wait until the end of February or the first week of March or so and if I haven't heard anything by then, I'll probably email admissions about it. Some of the other schools I've applied to want my decision by March 15th-ish and all my other schools' deadlines are on April 1st -- so I can't wait that long to find out, and I'm sure there are lots of us in this situation!Pumpkin_Pie wrote:When is scholarship info coming?

Re: University of South Carolina c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Ehh, parking stinks anywhere on campus. There is definitely nothing nearby (unless you want to feed meters. Those go off at 6 I think). We have several parking meters around, but the only campus parking on the same block as the building is for faculty. We also have a couple of commercial business parking lots, but they tend to pay attention and get things towed.
I personally park at the lot across from the Strom center, and walk up from there. It's definitely a pain, though. Get there early if you don't want to play the spot-hunting game.

Once again, not the best at it, but you guys have a couple of resources at your disposal. First of all, there will be a board available to admitted students that has property up specifically by people who want to rent to law students. They're generally lawyers or law students who want good tenants, and my impression is that the properties are top-notch and closely located. They're also expensive, as are most things close to the campus.sclaw16 wrote:Thanks for helping out. Any suggestions for apartments/condos around the law school?
I personally don't recommend being close to campus. We've had a rash of robberies and even a rape around 11-midnight in the past few weeks. They're claiming they're adding officers, and it probably will be taken care of, but sometimes Five Points attracts a rougher crowd. Be cautious at night. Another (important) reason to not be close to campus is TRAINS. They will go at all hours of the night, and they will keep you up with their dulcet, sweet honks of love.
If you do choose to live on campus, the main thing you're going to want to figure out is which buildings are undergrad central. You want to avoid the undergrad areas as much as possible, since they tend to be out partying late at night. The grad student housing looks like the projects, so I wouldn't suggest that either.
I personally am a slightly older, nontraditional student, and I wanted my own house. Cantey & Co. has been excellent to me, and they have a lot of different apartments in the area. They're pretty cheap, too. I'm about 10 minutes away from the school, and I only have to deal with the train menace if I'm late to class.
Here's a few links:
http://www.cantey.com
http://www.columbiahomerentals.com/Arentalhouses.html
I'll ask around and see where people live, but most of the non-traditional students I know live off campus, and so do a fair number of traditional students.
Edit: Few more options: Facebook will have a number of 2Ls and 3Ls trying to sublease apartments as you get closer, and I've seen some people who live in Aspyre, Pavillion Towers and Canal Side Lofts. Hope that helps!

Re: University of South Carolina c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
So my status checker went to "decision letter mailed" on 3/1 and I have yet to receive anything by snail mail. However, today I received an email inviting me to the 2013 Admitted students day on March 23? Is it safe to say that I have been accepted? My concern is that the letter in the mail is a waitlist letter and they have just invited me to admitted students day in case I make it off the waitlist? Am I just being paranoid?! Is anybody else in this situation?

That's odd. I'd call Admissions and figure out what's up with that.

I'll probably give it until the mail runs on Friday then give them a call, either way it's got me freaked out

Complete: 9/27/12
In Review: 2/4/13
In Review: 3/7/13
Any thoughts on why the dates have changed, but the status hasn't? Did this happen to any of y'all before getting "Decision Letter Mailed"?

Gotcha, thanks man. Hopefully it'll just change to "decision letter mailed" tomorrow and I just check the damn status checker too often. Congratulations, by the way!

I got the same exact thing.. went "in review" on 2/4 and repeated the "in review" status on 3/7. I'm guessing that means that we're in a second round of review?morrissey wrote:Complete: 9/27/12

Well someone above said ASD is the 23rd of this month, so hopefully they just want to give us the last one over before we get some acceptances. What are you numbers if you don't mind saying?landisjc wrote:I got the same exact thing.. went "in review" on 2/4 and repeated the "in review" status on 3/7. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that is the case. Otherwise, the website says that they expect to have final decisions completed by April 15, so I guess it's possible to stay "in review" past the accepted student day. My LSAT was 150 and my GPA was a 3.8.morrissey wrote:Well someone above said ASD is the 23rd of this month, so hopefully they just want to give us the last one over before we get some acceptances.
