The law tower itself is not being expanded. An additional building is being built right next to it. As for the law tower, the facade will be renovated but remain the same in appearance. It is protected because it shows a really awesome example of brutalism!!shadowofjazz wrote:Ah, you're 2 years senior thenAlanShore wrote:No, 2010!shadowofjazz wrote:c/o 2012? it'd be pretty random if we actually know each other...Best of luck!
For those of you who don't know, the LAW tower is being remodeled and expanded to accommodate a larger first few floors to have all the classes and the upper levels converted into administrative offices. No word on if the outside facade will be modernized. The current construction is expected to finish in 2013 with another 15 months of remodeling indoors after the new wing is constructed: http://www.bu.edu/bostonia/web/law/.

yeah, the new building will house most of the classrooms and common spaces. the tower will be gut renovated after, being mostly offices and fulfilling other administrative functions. idea is to make a more horizontal experience.AlanShore wrote:is the new building a law building though?

I have always found the best type of educational experiences are usually the most horizontal

expensive. 1250-1500 for a "decent" one.. but if youre coming from a place with a really cheap COL like the south or midwest, you may have to redefine your idea of decent. it will be small. it won't/shouldn't be filthy, bedbugs, etc or anything like that but it won't be big!Jredelman15 wrote:what is the COL up there for a decent 1 bedroom?
If you live with roommates it will be 600+. The best deal is probably splitting a decent sized 2 bed but if you like to live alone (as do I), maybe a studio is better if you're concerned about money. You can get an okay but very small studio for 1000 if you really look.

That is a shit ton of money for a person coming from WV. I pay rent at 420/month. Even with parents and my SO paying 1/3 I will be paying over that for a 1BR. Damn. That's a reminder of how broke I really am.

oh.. yea.. WV.. rents in the Boston-area are EXTREMELY high and inflated (vs other big cities) because of the number of students...Jredelman15 wrote:That is a shit ton of money for a person coming from WV. Is anyone concerned about applying after seeing the BU/BC OCI thread? These are two of my top nonT14 schools, but I'm getting nervous about their prospects.

I've always been nervous. I think BC does better than BU but both you have to be pretty highly ranked in your class...WanderingPondering wrote:Is anyone concerned about applying after seeing the BU/BC OCI thread? These are two of my top nonT14 schools, but I'm getting nervous about their prospects.

Did anyone else get shut down when they asked for a fee waiver? I just got an email from BU saying that they "are unable to provide a merit-based fee waiver by request." It seems like others here have succeeded, though, and my numbers are over their medians. This leaves me with the awful feeling that it was something I said. :/

What did you say in the email? I doubt you could have said anything too bad.. i have no idea why they would deny you though.Elahrairah wrote:Did anyone else get shut down when they asked for a fee waiver? It was very short, just "Hi there, I'm a prospective student wondering if BU offers merit waivers and if I qualify. Here are my numbers..."AlanShore wrote:What did you say in the email? I dont think the BU/BC OCI thread is much different from any other thread from peer schools. Most schools in the 20-30 range are struggling (even lower t14s aren't doing too too well). The midwestern t25 thread seems to be the worst imoiMisto wrote:Thank you.

Thats REALLY weird. I definitely wouldn't worry that you said something wrong. Maybe they got flooded or something and are randomly denying for awhile? I have no idea but don't worry that you did anything!Elahrairah wrote:It was very short, just "Hi there, I'm a prospective student wondering if BU offers merit waivers and if I qualify. Are the ellipsis marks a passive aggressive attempt at talking shit? The state sucks everyone knows that, you can't help where you were born.AlanShore wrote:oh.. yea.. I would consider re-asking them in a few days.. what's your LSAT? Perhaps, say you are truly interested, but a fee waiver would help you financially. Your GPA is really high though... so maybe they already know you have your eyes set on someplace else?Elahrairah wrote:It was very short, just "Hi there, I'm a prospective student wondering if BU offers merit waivers and if I qualify. Huh? I used ellipsis as an attempt to emphasize "oh yea wv is definitely one of the places where it will hurt A LOT to move to an expensive city"Jredelman15 wrote:Are the ellipsis marks a passive aggressive attempt at talking shit? Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have a little bit of a short man syndrome when it comes to WV.AlanShore wrote:Huh? BC has been doing better in Boston of late. BU is miles ahead in NY. Both suck everywhere else.AlanShore wrote:I've always been nervous. Interesting. When you say BU is miles ahead.. does that mean they place a lot (relatively) in NY? or that if you want to practice in NY, you ought to go to BU but still have low expectations?shadowofjazz wrote:BC has been doing better in Boston of late.
