Hmm, I wonder why you have a February 1st deposit. That seems really early. Several named scholarships still require interviews at that point.wardenv wrote:My status has been changed to "Decision letter sent" -- although, I am yet to receive an e-mail regarding the decision.
However, a seat deposit that is due by February 1, 2013 was added to my fee list, so I think I can safely take that as a good sign!

for those of you that have been accepted, how long did it take for your application to go under review and then how long did it take for a decision? Mine still hasen't even said it's under review...

Accepted today. Not a surprise, but it's my first acceptance of this cycle so I'm a little excited.

I received my admissions packet in the mail but no scholarship offer... I'm at 75th percentile for both .. Anyone know if this is normal? Do scholarship offers not go out until later??

Brown8714, I have also been concerned about the scholarship offers as well. I have not received anything or heard from them at all. But I have heard that there are some scholarships that 1L can apply for. It is on their main website.

Apparently they send out scholarship offers a few weeks after they send the admissions packet.
Also, I live in Indianapolis so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Re: ROBERT MCKINNEY SCHOOL OF LAW APPLICANTS (IU INDY) 2016!!!
I was accepted 1/22 and have yet to receive any scholarship information.
I did get an email from IU-Indy stating they had assigned me a student ID number this morning and advising that I could now use it to access Onestart. Truthfully, they didn't assign me a new number but instead reused the student ID number I have as a current IUPUI undergraduate with which I have already been able to access Onestart. Regardless, it is movement, and I appreciate movement.

I'm also an IUPUI alumni! I hope I get my scholarship info soon. I need to know if I'm going to have to visit other schools or if McKinney can seal the deal for me ...

Snailmail.
I received an admissions packet, an acceptance letter, and another letter. Along with a phone call. All before I got my scholarship info.

Thanks for the info. I've received the admissions packet as well as several other mailings and a phone call. Looks like I'm just waiting for one more letter now.kayleighcheyenne wrote:Snailmail.

For those from Indy will you describe the atmosphere of the city? Also, are Indy Law grads considered IU Alums?

Re: ROBERT MCKINNEY SCHOOL OF LAW APPLICANTS (IU INDY) 2016!!!
Indy is a pretty laid back place. It is also relatively small for a large city. I live two miles south of the center of the city and can reach any area within city limits within half an hour except the northeast side, which has terrible traffic headed towards the suburbs of Fishers and Noblesville. Cost of living in Indianapolis is very cheap. If you're willing to drive 10 to 15 minutes to and from school there are one bedroom apartments available near $500/month that aren't hell holes.maybemercer wrote:For those from Indy will you describe the atmosphere of the city? If you have children you should be aware that the Indianapolis Public School district is not the best. That's one of the reasons why traffic on the Northeast side is awful as the schools in Fishers and Noblesville are top notch. There are schools within the city that I wouldn't think twice about sending my child to, you just need to do some research. Charter schools abound, but not all Charter schools are created equal; again, do your research. Here is a link to a website which shows, by map, the overall grades of the major school districts within the state: http://stateimpact.npr.org/indiana/tag/istep-2012/. You can search each school individually by ISTEP scores by clicking a link just below the map.
Entertainment is there if you want it. Broadripple, about 15 minutes north of campus, has a bit of a college town feel due to its proximity to Butler. There are a variety of bars/clubs along a relatively small stretch with a comedy club and live music venue there as well. Downtown also has plenty of restaurants, bars/clubs, comedy joints, and live music venues within walking distance of each other. As a parent of two, I don't get out much so I can't comment to how good or bad they are, just that they exist. The Pacers and Colts both play within walking distance to downtown attractions and both the Bankers Life Fieldhouse and the Lucas Oil Stadium are excellent venues and relatively new. There is also a mall at the center of the city which has a variety of shops, a movie theater, and an arcade.
Downtown Indy often revolves around conventions, though. The city has pushed really hard to make itself a name as a convention town and has succeeded. Throughout the year there are a variety of large conventions which bring tens of thousands of attendees to the downtown area each. They range from an enormous gamer/fantasy convention, to a national Firefighters convention, to the Future Farmers of America.
Indiana sucks as far as weather goes in my opinion. The summers can get stupidly hot and humid (we saw 105 degrees this past summer before humidity was considered) and the winters can get obnoxiously cold. In other words, don't move to Indiana for the weather.
Regarding whether IU-Indy alumni are thought of as IU grads, I would argue they are not. Both law schools have taken steps to differentiate themselves by changing their namer, Bloomington to the Maurer School of Law and IU-Indy to McKinney. In Indianapolis I would wager that the big law firms likely won't differentiate between IU-Indy and IU-Bloomington grads. Once outside of Indianapolis, though, I suspect IU-Bloomington is far better receive, although Bloomington sometimes struggles to place well outside of the Midwest. Truth be told, I wouldn't attend either school if I didn't want to stay in Indianapolis or Indiana or else had strong ties to the market I was hoping to attend.
Anyhow, that's plenty for now. If anyone has specific questions about Indianapolis I would be happy to try to answer them.
Good luck all!

I was curious about this also. Applied to the part-time program and was accepted on 2/5/13. I am above both 75%'s (3.7/158) but haven't heard anything about a scholarship. Is it because I am going part-time that I have not received any scholarship? Any info would would be appreciated.

Re: ROBERT MCKINNEY SCHOOL OF LAW APPLICANTS (IU INDY) 2016!!!
There was almost a three week lag between my acceptance and my scholarship offer. It's only been just over three weeks since your acceptance, so I wouldn't get too concerned yet. Being over the 75th percentiles should net you something.btown wrote:Brown8714 wrote:Anyone receive their scholarship info yet? It'll be a month for me at the end of next week .... That being said, I have no idea if aid for part-time applicants works differently...
