This is so so curiosity-inducing that it almost makes me think 'troll'. Almost.

Really interested to hear more about this. This reminds me of the Berkeley fiasco in which they sent an acceptance email to everyone by accident.

Re: Just want to express my dissapointment
*Pretending this is real:*
Now that I think about it, this reminds me of the UC San Diego thing a few years ago. Obviously this is quite different (the San Diego applicants were rejected at first and received the mistake acceptance email a month later), but is also similar. There is nothing you can do; it's a mistake.
Now, if you were accepted and were not notified of the mistake until say orientation, you could have a cause of action against the school under reliance, provided that you incurred costs to attend (leaving a job, selling your house, signing a year lease, taking on a mortgage, etc). However, this would be unlikely as the school would probably realize the mistake during the seat deposit process. Could be a pretty interesting promissory estoppel hypo.

Re: Just want to express my dissapointment
Well I was rejected by a TTT before they apologized and admitted me, so I would say it's certainly possible.

Re: Just want to express my dissapointment
Hey everyone,
I would be happy to tell you which school this was but technically my app is still 'pending' again so I'd rather wait until the cycle is over. Luckily I have not been rejected. I had not withdrawn from my other schools. I was notified by an email both times. I did send that diversity statement. This was not my dream school but it was a school I was seriously considering.
Cogito: why would whatever follows be gratifying?

I think he was referring to if you got revenge on the school by outing them. He was licking his chops for sweet, sweet, revenge.

Without your "secret" or the name of the school, this thread blows.

FTFY. Out or GTFO, who would be loyal to a school that did this?catwomangirl wrote:This is so so curiosity-inducing that italmostmakes me think 'troll'.Almost.

Re: Just want to express my dissapointment
Agreed. The argument that you might still get in is BS. The fact that you were blown away by an acceptance and that it was a reach implies to me that your numbers were not competitive for the school. This, combined with the fact that adcomms will likely assume you won't matriculate based on the emotional rollercoaster they have put you on, leads me to believe they will reject you if not only to protect their yield.sundance95 wrote:FTFY. For the same reason this would be gratifying to associates at Piper's Baltimore office:swtlilsoni wrote: Cogito: why would whatever follows be gratifying?

My best guess... (assuming that this is not a flame) is that the school is UVa, and OP's "secret" (something like try to log in to ASW 57 times in 5 minutes or less and it sends you an acceptance email) started this whole thing , and so (s)he doesn't want to totally out them because it's partially his/her fault.
OP, if I'm wrong, set me straight! Spill the beans!

regardless, the facts remain what they were before both emails: your app is in that giant pile with all of our apps.
waiting until march isn't that bad. take up scuba diving if it helps pass the time.

thinking this is a flame, since OP hasn't answered either of my PMs about his "secret." If not and you end up getting dinged, ATL that shit.

This cycle a friend of mine received an accidental rejection email from Chapman followed by an apology, acceptance, and full ride scholarship. Awwwkward!

Re: Just want to express my dissapointment
This happened to a relative of mine with GW. Poor person told everyone they got accepted before the school apologized for the error, explaining it was meant to be a rejection.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
