In via phone call 2/17.
They said I would be under review for a scholarship. Do they tell everyone this? How long does it take for them to let you know if you received a scholarship?

I was accepted last week but still haven't received a packet. Can anyone tell me for sure when the admitted student day is?

I was admitted 2-17. They said my file would be reviewed for scholarship. I have yet to hear anything back from them in re to that. Also, I never received anything in the mail from them, only an invitation to admitted students day.
Did I get passed up for a scholarship?

Not sure if you got passed up. I would just give them a call and speak to them about it in admissions. Each time I have called, they have been very helpful.Titleist wrote:I was admitted 2-17. Do they generally give scholarship info in their admission packets they mail out?

In with a $30,000 scholarship. I will be withdrawing soon. Hopefully it comes to one of you all.

What are job prospects like. What percentage of 3L's have jobs lined up. Any chance at big law, or Dallas market. What kind of salaries are we looking at. Thankspatrickd139 wrote:Categorically untrue.lawschooliscool wrote:I heard no 1L has a summer job lined up

Job prospects are regional, and end at the state borders. Probably 1/3 of 3Ls have a job lined up, maybe less; we don't really talk about it.lawschooliscool wrote:What are job prospects like. No shot at coastal biglaw; no shot at Dallas or Houston biglaw either. We're sending one person to Dallas biglaw out of this year's class. She's from Dallas, had great contacts to the firm before law school, and is ranked at or near number one in our class. You won't be that person, so don't do it.
Starting salaries for most of my class probably range in the $38-$55k range. There are exceptions (market rate in OKC and Tulsa is $100k, but there are approximately 10 of us who got market rate jobs this year).

Thanks for the info. I want to go to OU since it'll be about 3 times less expensive than SMU/Houston, but with job numbers like that I'm very hesitant.

Re: University of Oklahoma c/o 2015 (2011-2012 Cycle)
It all depends on your, career goals, tolerance for risk, and aversion to debt. If you're gunning for Dallas biglaw, you're looking at about a 2% chance based on this year's (admittedly crappy) numbers. Maybe class of 2013 and 2014 will have better luck, but it's far from certain. You'll increase your chances ten-fold by going to SMU if you want Dallas firm lyfe.lawschooliscool wrote:Thanks for the info. Sad that OU dropped so far down? 10ish spots? I'll probably get some money here, but this isn't a good sign, not to mention the sketch employment prospects listed above.

Haha. No one should come to OU because of its ranking. People should come to OU because they want to practice law in Oklahoma. For that purpose, OU has always done fine, unless you're up against a T14 grad. That fact won't change whether OU is ranked 15th or 100th.chw123 wrote:Sad that OU dropped so far down? 10ish spots? Admitted today via phone call. Actually surprised how fast I received a decision as I just applied last Wednesday. I will be headed to Norman on Friday for admitted students day. Very exciting!

Congrats! I did not apply for EAP only because we would be moving over 100 miles if I do attend OU and I would need more time to get that done. However, if you are in a position to start during the summer I would be all over that.chw123 wrote:In today via phone call! Yeah, the housing I have set up (old hs friend moving out), should I accept the offer, starts first of May so it would work out ok. It's not a half bad deal, Susan Wilson was telling me how one of the classes you take is crim pro and you get the full credit for the class so you don't have to take it in your first spring.Oklahoma2014 wrote:Congrats!
