Hey guys. I'm a 1L at UP and I just wanted to respond to those of you asking about which campus to choose. I've only been to Carlisle once, but it definitely has much more of a small town feel than State College, although State College is also a relatively small town. I was sort of worried that I would be too tempted by all the distractions here at UP, but I was actually able to go to every home football game this fall and still manage my work load. At the beginning of the semester a lot of us went out every weekend, but that has happened less often as the semester progressed. Having social opportunities is actually a good thing. It allows you to take a break from studying and do something fun. I don't think anyone who comes to UP would be so tempted to be out partying that they wouldn't be able to do their work. As long as you have are committed to law school and have a little self-control you should be fine.
State College is a great place, regardless of what is floating around in the media right now. The Penn State President said that only 8 individuals have withdrawn their applications for undergraduate admissions, and I doubt that many people who otherwise would have seriously considered Penn State Law will shy away from applying here because of the scandal. To those who have commented about Penn State building up the law school, you are correct. Both locations have brand new buildings and we have really great professors at both locations.
I know last year I got my acceptance email mid-late December and my scholarship information came around mid-late January. I hope that none of you are as obsessive as I was about constantly checking my email for acceptances. Looking back I can't believe how much time I wasted checking my email and TLS constantly, but I guess it happens to the best of us. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back from admissions!
