WHY USC!!! I don't understand why some school ( like Emory) take soooo long. Wouldn't it put that school at a disadvantage?

As a current 1L at USC, i'd like to offer some advice. Enjoy your upcoming breaks (thanksgiving and christmas) and forget about admissions for a little bit. easier said than done, i know, but the truth of the matter is, once the admission comes in it's really non-stop from there on. there's always some form to turn in, or scholarship app to fill out, and then law day, and then orientation.... seriously. checking the status is not going to make it go any faster.

Re: USC c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
i like it. i don't like some things, but i don't necessarily know that all of the things i *don't* like are really substantive, or that they really just bother me because i spend so much time here (so maybe i'm just grumpy or acutely aware of some of the little minor defects.) in either case, i am considering making one of those "USC 1L taking questions" threads, but i might wait until after finals.....msblaw89 wrote:@ glitter... how do you enjoy USC?
one thing that is really annoying though: no free printing. it's not a cost issue so much as it is really annoying to have to keep refilling a copy card when you just want to print something out really quickly.

I think USC waits a while until the first decisions come out at the top schools and they wait for people to withdraw before giving out their own decisions. Thats my theory.

What do you think that means? I scoured last year's thread and it didn't happen last year. I hope it means something good will come soon.

From the website:
Complete:
Your application is complete and will be forwarded to the Admissions Committee. There is no further action needed for you to take at this time.
Committee Review 1:
Your application is in its initial review by member(s) of our admissions committee. Depending on the committee's recommendation, additional committee review may be required prior to a decision being finalized. Please continue to check the status of your application for further updates.
Committee Review 2:
Your application is undergoing additional review by member(s) of our admissions committee. You may have noticed that the Current Status Date changed along with your Current Status and that is not a cause for concern. It is entirely normal for a large number of our applications to receive a second committee review and it should not be taken as a sign (positive or negative) regarding the outcome of your application.
Decision Finalized:
The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. Decisions are communicated via US Mail and we cannot release a decision via other means (including phone and e-mail). If you do not receive your decision within 7-10 business days of your status changing to Decision Finalized, please notify our office.

I hope that we don't stay in review that long. I was finally over checking my status checker every day .... and now that i am being reviewed, I'm going to be incessantly checking every day again.

Is this early for USC to start reviewing? DOn't they normally not release decisions until February ?

I think last year they started releasing decisions late December/ early January. So this does seem kind of early.
Do we think the people currently in 1st read have a good chance? Because I am definitely not an auto-admit, so I am really surprised to be looked at right now. I was thinking USC wouldn't review me until March.

I figure most people would be basically auto-admits. But I have strong softs and am a URM, so that may account for it.

"1st review" as of yesterday.
It doesn't seem like that many other people on here are in review...hopefully this is promising?
