I submitted my application at 11pm last night and today at 1pm got an email to apply for the John Marshall Scholars Program. I don't think it means anything in terms of an admissions decision.

I was accepted a few weeks ago, received my letter in the mail yesterday mentioning the John Marshall Scholarship, and got the e-mal about it today. Nothing about the scholarship indicates that you have to be accepted to apply for it, so I'm thinking it operates like many other scholarships in which you can apply while your application is being considered.

I would definitely recommend the trip. I was able to attend a few classes and tour with a current student, so it gave me a better idea for what it'd be like to actually attend the school. The campus was/is amazing, too. Very nice people as well.

with your LSAT I wouldn't worry too much, and they don't give out (official) scholarship decisions until March. I will admit getting the actual letter is pretty nice, though. Hopefully yours is already postmarked and merely in transit

LSAC and/or UGPA? From meeting with Dean Rahman, a legitimate "extenuating circumstances" addendum and/or an upward grade trend seems like it's given favorable consideration. Besides, it's much easier for schools to find good GPA than high LSAT--you're better off being above the 75th LSAT/below the 25th GPA.

But if you're still worried about the GPA and don't have a traditional addendum to put out, I'd definitely recommend visiting in person and presenting yourself as someone prepared, motivated to improve academically at law school. Your LSAT clearly indicates you have the capability, and perhaps your personal statement will also speak to such a point to some extent.

That said, I do again think presenting yourself well in the flesh would allow you to instill a greater deal of confidence that you're ready to take things more seriously (I don't mean to imply you're a slacker, but someone with a 167 can certainly do better than a 2.8, ha).

My UGPA is 3.53. I was hoping some schools would look at it and see that I don't actually have a 2.8. Thank you for all this information! I might try to get out there if I don't hear by Christmas. Getting off work is such a hassle or I would go sooner.

Visiting is the absolute best idea. If it turns out that you absolutely cannot, make sure to call and/or email interest letters. They want to know that Richmond is your first choice and maybe why.

As said earlier, if UR is a top choice, you should definitely visit especially since your numbers are (slightly) on the low end.

But good luck on Saturday--just pull off 2-3 more questions and you'll be in a good spot. I'd think anything 160 or higher with a 3.5ish GPA is a lock.

Thanks. I've been hitting 162-167 on my PT's. I choked on game day, so hopefully I'll be more relaxed (I forgot my lighter and didn't have a cig before the test. Nicotine calms my nerves). I'm visiting DC in January, maybe I can swing by Richmond. I hear it's a gorgeous campus. I should have a 3.5 LSAC GPA by December. I was surprised UR sent me a fee waiver, because of my LSAT. I just don't want to spend the money if there's little chance of gaining admissions. If I did get accepted, I don't think I would get a scholarship or significant aid.

Thanks to the TLS Forum I knew that getting a call at 9:04pm from VA meant I should run out of class because it was the Dean of U Richmond calling me!
